wet floor board

Hey can any one help me with this problem I have a wet Passenger side floor board the carpet gets soaked. the heater core is not the problem there is no antifreeze smell and have vaccumed it out and it is water. does this with the vehicle parked and after a rain looked at the doo adn window weather stripping and haven't found anything there either.

Any Help will be appreciated

Dont know what year but Owners of some 1999-2001 Alero
and Grand Am models may comment about a mildew odor, windshield fogging, or wet carpet on the passenger side. And
in ambient temperatures below 32° F, the blower may not operate due to ice.
The foam water dam under the black
beauty panel may be mis-positioned,
missing, or not adhered properly.

On vehicles with foam mis-positioned or not adhered properly Remove and discard the original foam part. Clean the metal surface with an
alcohol based cleaner. Install the new part, properly center-ing
the part over the HVAC air intake opening.

On vehicles built without a foam dam and old style beauty panel
Install 18 mm foam. On vehicles with no foam, or with 18 mm foam and
new style beauty panel Install 25 mm foam.

thats from a GM bulletin, hope it helps. BTW I had the same trouble, ruined the air bag controler under the passanger seat. Luckily it was replaced under warrnty. Good Luck radmanndi And Welcome To AF's.

You may want to try using a hose to run water over the entire area to try to locate your leak. Pay close attention to the windshield. Does it show up after driving in the rain? I know you said it happens after a rain when the car sits. This may sound silly but you may try turning the car around in the spot that your parking in untill you find the leak, this may stop the water getting in for now.

trust me, you arent the only Grand Am owner with this problem. I have the same problem except its my drivers side. Ive heard just about every remedy there is and none of them worked for me. Some guys claim is the door seal, others say its the sun roof, some say it comes from the windshield. I havent located the source of mine yet.

thanks for the reply but turning the car around doesn't make a difference. the windshield was replaced about a year ago and don't think that is the problem. the door seals work fine and the garden hose test doesn't help. thinkin it mjght be in the ventalation system under the back of the hood by the way this is a 94 rand am se 3.1 liter v 6.

the car rides like it is on rails and the engine is good and strong, lookin to breath it in the future if any one knows about hoopin a 3.1 v 6

it is probley coming in through the blow'r are or the ventalation grid under the hood in front on the windsheild.

Not much hopping to the 3.1s. Some Headers, Valve job, and a CAI , and if you need more Hp might as well go all out and go for the turbo or supercharger. Big bucks around $3500 if you can find them.

Same thing happens to me and my 96GT. I was lucky enough to spot it dripping down from behind the glove box one day...but i'm really lazy and that was the end of my search. It's def not windshield or window or anything like that. Vent system or the like. Hey, if you are a bit more ambitious and pinpoint it (and/or fix) feel free to share the info

Dunno if this might apply, but I had a similar leak right after I bought my '98 GA. In my case, it was the installation of the aftermarket alarm/keyless entry system. When they drilled into the firewall they didn't seal the drilled area. Gooped it and no more leak. Hope yours will be as easy!

Remove the black plastic panel under the wiper arms, under this on the passenger side you will find the fresh air intake for the hvac system.
There is a drain under it that may be clogged.
You can remove the plastic intake & re-seal it with silicone, also the black plastic cover under the wiper arms will need to be sealed to the window at least on the passenger side.

Chazman on a whim i took the front plastic panel and yes you could see the wqter linesw on the blower intake. Took out the fresh air deflector and ran my shop vac with a crevis attachment down under the deflector sucked out alot of debris.

Have same problem firewall on both sides is rusted out. These holes collect enough water on both sides. You won't notice for a few days after a rain or snow until the pad is soaked. Pull back the carpet under the drivers side the leak will be hard to see., but have someone use a garden hose to spray on the firewall.
