WIP: 2006 Mustang GT - Cobra throwback

Alright, well, I just game back from vacation, and my wonderful Cobra Colors paints and primer came, so I can start the Revell Mustang GT I got. It's going to be white with blue Shelby stripes, all of them Fire Pearls. Well, enough chit chat... here's what I've done thus far... mainly just priming, but a lot of exterior work will be done tonight!

I think I'm going to end up using the whole thing of paint... but I don't think I'm gonna get the white I was looking for... oh well, still going to go with my original idea. Anybody have any ideas on how to paint split stripes? I get to mask down the sides, but tape is too thick for the middle. Do I use a straight edge and X-acto, or is there an easier way?

Yay for painters tape. I have to prime the Carrera GT I have waiting, and then it's blue stripes and blue Porsche!

paint job looks good. looks way more silver than white though?

dang, this looks like it might turn out well.

white97ex: I agree :-/ Oh well, that's half the bottle, and I don't think it'll get much whiter. Best to bite the bullet and go onward. Maybe I'll do a white and blue Corvette down the line.

That's nice. Great color combo. I still haven't decided what to paint my '06 Boss yet.

The more I look at it, the more I like it. I still wish it were that white I wanted... oh well! Onward ho!

i think that color combo looks great, no need to be dissapointed about the white though. although it is strange that the white didnt come out "white"

Nope. 15 inch mags were exactly what I was looking for.

The interior, custom black and blue, with a "wood" steering wheel rim. Once again, a throwback to the Cobras of yore.

What colour was your primer?

I think some pearl whites are supposed to be used over a gloss white base because they are no where near opaque.

It was a black primer, just like is needed for a Cobra Colors Fire Pearl. I'll grab some pictures for you soon.

And about the wheels, I went smaller rather than larger because I think the smaller better represent the heritage of the Cobra.

I think this turned out pretty nice. I can understand why some arent happy with the rims. But some of us older kids that can remember when these kinds of rims were at home on a mustang, it sure brings back memories. Great idea mixing in some heritage with what the mustang is now, I like the whole theme about it.

Good job. Wow that colour looks very similar to the 06 Im building, yours is lighter though. I like the rims. Its nice to see some old school wheels and tires instead of always 17-20 inchers. KEep up the good work

Thank you both for understanding why I put the mags on the car. To me, five spoke mags are the only things that belong on muscle cars :)

Speaking of, I think the new GT's have a mag-style option :-D

Overall it looks good to me. I like the color choices.

I can also understand why you put those wheels on there, but I definitely don't agree with the choice. It's a muscle car sure, but it's a modern muscle car and small wheels just look 'odd' on modern cars to most people (myself included). Of course, it's your model and you should make yourself happy before anyone else. And you're right, the current 'Stang does have 5 spoke mag looking wheels, but they are 17 and 18" which fit the modern style nicely.
