Who make the best cams for the 98-02 LS1 trans am's. How much will they set me back with installation, and will i feel a differance??? THANKS

I'm not sure what they run on the LS1's, but a camshaft is one of the biggest things you can do to help the engine breath...If you do it right you'll feel the difference.

Do you have ALL the bolt-ons yet??
If not...cam isn't worth it.
Once the car has the bolt-ons though, a cam can get you 60 RWHP with a good tune.
I installed mine....$1000. With install....probably $1500.
I can't tell you what cam would be good for your car.
Are you looking for power down low?
Power up top?
Good idle?
Do you have to pass emissions?
M6 or A4?

A good one. Something between the 4-$500 range. 600 MAX. i want all round power but dont want it to cluttery. What bolt ons do i need. I have the LS6 intake, lid, getting the stroker ported. 1 more question Luos... how can u tell the differance between the ls1 and ls6 intake, and ported TB.

Ported throttle body will be shiny inside. Like it has been polished...because it has.
LS6 intake and LS1 intake.....little harder.
Easiest way I can think of quickly is the EGR port. LS1 has it, LS6 doesn't. It is a location for a hose right above the throttle body.
The cam itself should cost NO MORE than $400.
Then add valvesprings ($250 with retainers), pushrods ($120), oil pump ($140 if car is high mileage), LS2 timing chain ($40).
Add install price.
In order for a cam to breathe well, you want full exhaust, including headers. LS6 intake normally does well enough on stock heads with a cam.
There are TONS of LSx cams out there. It depends on how you want it to act.

You basiclly need exhaust since you all ready have a lid. 98-00 LS1's had the ls1 intake manifold and 01 & 02 had the LS6 intakes.
You'll want a catback (or cutout) and LT headers. You can get an ORY pipe if a visual emission test is not a concern or you can get a HF catted Y-pipe if it is an issue. Once exhuast is done then the next question is are you an automatic? If so matching a torque converter, gears and cam would be most benificial. If it's an M6 then you just need to pick a cam.
Emission wise, the most popular cam that can pass with a good tune is a 224/224 on 114 LSA. Good mid range power, very street friendly and it can pass emissions.
If emissions are not an issue then you can start looking at slightly bigger cams. One of my favorite vendors for cams is Futural. Check out this website and look at all these cam specs. FM13 is an extremly popular cam these days.

If you have any questions you should give those guys a call. They are cam gurus and will lead you in the right direction.

Futral is a great choice.
Along with Thunder, Texas Speed, and a couple others.

Thanks guys. I have 1 MORE QUICK QUESTION. When i told this kid i have and ls6 intake, lid, programer, TB, catback, he says i only have 320 or 325hp. I think he means rear wheel HP not crank. What are your suggestions. And wut should i tell him at school tommorow???
Mr. Luos

That should be RWHP.
What the hell does he mean 'only'??

im pretty sure he means 320-325 rear wheel horsepower. I know im not sending 320 to the flywheel with those bolt ons. This kid has 360 to the wheels that goes to my school, 01 ws6

Unless he is an M6 and went 3~>2 racing....I wouldn't bother with pushrods. I do agree with oil pump on a higher mileage car. Timing chain on a higher mileage car too. New/stiffer valvesprings with retainers are definately needed with the cam.
