SR20DET in a '99 eclipse

Is it possible to engine swap an SR20DET engine into a '99 GST eclipse? Would it fit? Would the transmission and drivetrain have to be swapped as well?

You could drop a 426, ferrari engine, or a lawnmower engine in there if you wanted, with lots of money anything is possible. Why would you want to? The 4g63 in there now is already putting out ~200 hp and with like $1500 you could put it deep into the 12's. That swap makes no sense to me at all with such a capable engine in there already.

Only swap that makes any sense is a 6 bolt 90-92 tsi/gsx.

why some someone wanna put an SR20 in a turbo DSM. And also that is a RWD engine, unless you get the one from the JDM sunny or the JDM pulsar..... BUT WHY!!!!!! Gst's can put down some mad power bro, with very little cash.

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. there is no way you can.

I wont let you.

If you really want a sr20, go get a 240sx?

Wow.

Simply wow.

As big as a fan as I am of both 240sx and DSM's this has to be one of the worst questions that actually envolve both cars. The 4G63 is already putting out 210hp, why would you wanna swap for an engine putting out nearly the same amount of power. I've seen 4G63's put out more power easily than SR's. So you got your answer. Without alot of money and some crazy fabrications, itcan't be done, and probally won't because its so illogical.

Wow well i guess i know the answer now but it wasnt for my car. I asked for someone that works with me in my shop. Oh well i was as clueless on the swap as he was so yea....

thnx for the replies though

What'd that guy you asked say?

Just kind of an FYI. When a car has a horizontally opposed engine (piston 1 to 4 is from fender to fender) its always a FWD car and same goes for AWD cars altohugh I think sometimes they might have vertically opposed engines, not sure. But on vertically opposed engines (piston 1 to 4 faces front bumper to firewall) it'll be a RWD.

AWD skylines have the pistons from bumper to firewall IIRC.

I couldn't even imagine that in my imaginatioooon!!! And plus....no room. It would be an inferior motor to but in an eclipse, but according to Fast n Furious 3...it's not inferior to put one in an early model mustang :eek7:

I saw a picture of that mustang. With the nissan engine in it.

It's like a 67 fastback.

Why would you do that to such a great car? Why not just buy a 427 for it? Anything, just not a nissan motor. I was left wondering what stupid person thought that up.

Yeah I'd have to say they were pretty freakin retarded. If you go to cardomain and look at the RX5's there a guy in there that took the rotary out and dropped in a SR20 (IIRC, it was a nissan engine anyway) and he supercharged and turbo'd it. Some people need a good quick kick in the sack. Interesting yes, but man. An RX5 (late 60s I believe, it looked like a rotary muscle car) is a piece of history and he fuckin put in a nissan engine. :screwy: I guess whatever floats his boat... I bet it was fast though.

Anything is possible with enough cash. In this senario I would even waste my time. Stock to Stock both motors are pretty equal anyways. Besides the 4G63 is capable of handle upto 500 hp on the stock internals where the SR20 (assuming you are going with the s-13 blacktop) is capbable of the 400-450 range. I would stick with what is stock it is actually the better of the 2 for the Eclispes

horizontally opposed = boxer engine.

Transverse = the way our cars have their engines oriented.

vertically opposed =

Longitudinal = front to back engine orientation. This doesnt mean its RWD, nearly all subarus (save the justy) are this way, and many, many of them are FWD. And have you seen under the hood of newer VWs? same way.

All just FYI

Im glad you corrected him, I wasn't going to be so nice

Renult and Alfa both made a variety of FWD cars with longtitundinal mounted engines, and most Audi's and Volvos are set up that way as well.
And of course Lotus, Toyota, Honda, Fiat and even Lamborghini have all made RWD cars with Transversly mounted engines.
