Charging Problems

My 98 Trooper is having charging problems. Battery goes dead. Voltage at the battery is only about 12.5 - 13 volts. But when the alternator is taken off and tested it shows 14.0-14.2. Any ideas where the voltage loss may be.

bad ground.

maybe a weasel got in there and ate a ground wire
