Vibrating gas guage

I have a 99 Suburban, started it one day, gas guage pegged past full and then read correctly but now it vibrates, looks kind of blurry, I know this is a common problem, Has anyone found a solution for this problem

I have never ran across this problem. But you might want to check your fuel pump grounds. Both internal and external.

I had the same problem on my 1998 suburban. I cleaned the ground that comes off the fuel pump it's attaches to the top of the cross member in front of the gas tank. Hopes this helps.

The solution to this problem is to replace the fuel pum /sender module. This behavior is a warning to a pending fuel pump failure. The job is very simple. Also, all aftermarket pumps run much quieter than the pump originally installed. Even the pump from GM. The pump/sender module should run you between $275-$400 depending on where you purchase the unit. To replace this unit you will need to lower the fuel tank. Do this when the tank is near empty. With a wandering gauge this could be difficult. However I recommend filling the tank. Then drive about 400 miles. This should leave you with about 4-6 gallons in the tank. At approximately 8 pounds a gallon this is makes lowering the tank by yourself or with the assistance of a floor jack much easier. You will need a flat blade screwdriver, a 15mm socket, a 3/8 quick disconnect fitting removal tool and a pair of pliers. A floor jack will also make the removal and installation easier. The screwdriver is used to loosen the hose clamps on the hoses at the fill neck. The 15mm socket to remove the bolts securing the mounting straps. The 3/8 quick disconnect fitting removal tool to remove the feed and return lines from the sender/pump module. The pliers to remove the secureing ring on the pump/sender unit. This job should take the average person with a basic skill set 2-3 hours to complete. Also, after a couple of tanks of fuel after replacing this sender/pump module, replace the fuel filter.

The fuel pump was replaced about a year ago.

Wow. I hear so many problems with the fuel gages. I have a 99 sub, about a year ago it started pegging the needle above full then it would seem normal for a bit then it would fall off to show empty then slowly float back up to half or full again. I have just been watching my miles and ignoring the gage. Perhaps I will check my grounds since that is simple and FREE. But I would sure like to hear more input on this subject in case the grounds are okay and I continue having troubles.

i have that exact problem with my 99 tahoe, its done it for a couple years now, i thought replacing the fuel pump and sending unit would fix it but it didnt make any difference. i also have a 97 suburban, pretty much the same car and its never done that.
