Motor mounts

I have a 94 Blazer 4x4 110K Mi. My motor mounts are going bad on me. A shop gave me a estimate of 500 bucks claiming shop time. Anyone had experience in changing these? How hard is it or any tips? :p

I did mine and used my shop crane to hold the engine up while I pulled off the the mounts and installed the new ones. I had a little trouble getting the bolts free on the mounts but after that I was home free. It could obviously be done without a crane but I guess that would be a little harder and some more prying and pulling would be needed, can be done.

can be done with a floor jack and a 2x4 at home.

Yes of course, I can't believe I didn't think of that, yes from the bottom up, of course.

You got to be careful though, only use the harmonic balancer itself as a jacking point to raise the engine.

I just use a floor jack plus scrap of lumber, and I don't think that it takes me much more than an hour total. Without using air tools.

I spent 175 for 3 lousy air tools a few months ago that are still in the box, go figure.

The front differental doesn't get in the way? The shop stated that they had to drop the differental to get to the mounts.

Not at all. The lowest place on the oil pan is behind the differential.
That's where I placed the block of wood.
I've also jacked them up from the front, but it means taking the skid plate off, and the jack point is pretty small

Trust me, don't sell them. That's when you'll need them.
That's what happened to me.
If you've got a friend that also has air tools always use the same fittings. Then you can always borrow the tools from them that you don't have, and the oposite.

I did my 93 2WD S-10 at home in my drive way. Dealership wanted $500 USD, I bought the two mounts and the Tranny mount from Autozone for $75. USD
If you dont have a floor jack, a small bottle jack and some scrap lumber works real sweet. You can buy cheap bottle jacks just about anywhere for under $25. You don't need the huge ones, the small ones work great for this. In any case, what ever you use, jack the engine up S-L-O-W-L-Y and watch to make sure nothing else is getting bent or broken. You can usually get approx. 1-2 inches of lift before you hit something.
