1997 Ram Ignition Start Problem

The 40 amp "Ignition Run" fuse in the power control box, of my 1997 Dodge Ram 2500, 5.9 litre turbo Cummins, burns out when I turn the ignition to "start." 'Took out the ignition switch, tested it, and found it to be fine. 'Purchased a new ignition switch and installed it, just to make sure, and the same thing happened. ‘Tested clutch pedal switch and it is fine. ‘Jumped battery to starter motor and it turned over. Fuel shut down solenoid also appears to be okay. ‘Wiring harness appears to be in good shape. Has anyone got any idea of what may be causing the problem. The local Dodge dealer hasn't been of much help.

Did you add any accessories to this truck recently such as a towing package or anything else? It looks like somethign was incorrectly installed on the ignition-on circuit and shorting it out.
If all above is ok, then I would disconnect that battery and start tracing the continuity to ground with an ohmmeter through that same circuit.

I don't have the answer to your problem, but I have saved hundreds of dollars by joining Turbodiesel.com and paying my $35 for a years worth of information.
