What the heck went wrong with my car.

Ok recently put on a new oil filter housing on my 92 Eclipse because the old was snapped off by a rock. Well I put the new one on and I drain the old oil in the car and put in 5 quarts in the Eclipse. Left the car running to check for any leaks. I went down the road with it and found out there was a small but easily fixable leak. Not only that I could drive it with out worrying about losing a lot oil. Well I was driving and it was a little sluggish during normal acceleration. Then when I let off on the gas it would slow down like I was hitting the brakes. Well I get about a couple of miles down the road I was in 1st gear and my rpms were at 4500 but the car was making a loud noise like a vacum cleaner. All of sudden my rpms start dropping so I push on the gas a little bit more. Which raised them back up for a second then they dropped back down. Then the car just died.

Now I do admit I was a little hard on the clutch cause I haven't driven a manual in a while. But I wasn't that hard on it. I had some people I know follow me home cause I had no plates. They said the car was blowing white smoke and it greased up their cars windshield. When we towed it back it was having a problems with the power. I had my emergency blinkers on and it was only lighting up one side of the car. When I turned the radio off both sides were back to normal. When I got home I checked the oil and the dipstick said I didn't have any oil. But I folled the cars trail and there is no sign of it losing that much oil. Plus the people behind me didn't see any leaking. I was only going 30 mph so I know they would have seen it leak. I also want to know if a flood the car was in might have something to do with it. It was in a flood and water was gushing into the exhaust. Which is why I changed the old oil. But I'm wondering if something might have messed with it.

The people behind me said it sounded like I was revving the engine too much. But how could I? I was only on 4500 rpms and nowhere near the redline. The engine was just rebuilt. I'm wondering if the clutch just gave out and the smoke was something different. Or that the engine either didn't have oil pressure. I'm hoping I didn't tear up the block even though it would give me an excuse to buy a high powered racing motor. One more thing the check engine light kept coming on and off the whole way there. I just didn't want it to happen this early. Please help me I want this thing running.

It sounds like ur car ate up all your oil. You said that their cars were all greased up, then thats probably the problem there. You have a major internal leak is what my guess is.

Well today I'm gonna check to see if there is any oil in the car to drain. It just seems wierd that it could burn oil that fast. Well last night after I made that post I tried starting it. Well it turned over but it wouldn't start. Something it didn't do right after it died. Well if the block is no longer usable I'm gonna part out the engine and sell all the good parts left and put the money toward a 2.4 L
