99 Taurus Low Coolant Light

My low coolant light was coming on although it had plenty of coolant. After two years of this I finally decided to take it to the dealership and have it repaired. They said it was a bad sensor in which they needed to replace the reservior bucket.
This repaired the problem for about a week. Now the light is coming on again. What else could be the problem if its not the sensor? Could it be a short in the wiring or something?
I live in Illinois and got it fixed at a dealership in Michigan so I just can't drive it back to the same dealer right away. I will contact the dealer but does anyone know what else could be the problem?

Did they fill up the coolant bottle after repair and is it still full? It could be a short but check level first.

The sensors in these reservoir are made with a float with a magnet in the reservoir and a magnet switch that detects the float when it sinks low enough to activate the magnet switch. They seem to not last very well. I just dissconected the plug on the sensor of mine to turn the low coolant light off in the dashboard and check my fluids regularly.

Yes they refilled the coolant bottle after replacing it. I am thinking it may be a short also because for a day or so, it did not come on, but it is back on now.
Thanks alex and denis,

It is a very common problem.
It is also better to buy the resovoir with the switch included.

I have a 2000 Taurus with the same problem only it only comes on after it's been running for about a half hour.
It just started about a week ago and I drive 30+ miles to work so by the time I get home it usually comes on.
It looks like there is enough coolant in the reservoir.
Can I change something to fix this? Or do I have to take it to a dealer.
On a scale of 1 to 5 as far as repair skills are concerned, I'm about a 2+.

You are sure it is a low coolant light? I'm not sure on the '99 if the indication is a symbol or text. Some time when you are not in a hurry to get home, pull off to the side of the road somewhere safe after the light comes on and inspect the level of the coolant in the bottle. DON'T REMOVE THE CAP, just use the little level indicator on the side of the bottle. If it shows that you are low on coolant, then the system is probably working properly. However, typically the level will increase as the coolant warms up, so this would seem a bit suspicious to me.
If the level seems correct, then try unplugging the switch and see if the indicator goes out. If so, then you probably have a bad switch. If it does not, then you probably have a wiring issue somewhere in the circuit.
Disclaimer: I do not have direct knowledge with the layout of the above systems specific to a 1999 non-SHO Taurus. A few of the suggestions I mention may not be as straightforward on your vehicle as I think they should be. :)

I was able to talk to a mechanic about this problem, he said if you replaced it and it started happening again to tap the sensor air bubbles form around it and cause it work improperly.
