I am looking at replacing my truck radio beacuse I had some bulbs out in mine so I took it apart last night to see what bulbs were out and to change them. found out the dumbazzes that designed them have them soldered in and not user servicable. now they are all out for some reason :banghead: so I am just going to replace the whole damned thing. I have had great experiance with Pioneer in the past just wanted to see what is good quality now with the best reception closest stations are 60+ miles away. I am looking at spending under $200 and will probably order from Crutchfield so I get everything I need to slip it right in.

With head units these days you pretty much get what you pay for. I've got a really good Pioneer in mine that ran me about $240 if memory serves correctly. I haven't seen a crutchfield lately but the last time I looked at them their prices weren't much lower (and in some cases higher) than any car stereo store. I would shop around local and save yourself some shipping money. They should also carry the harness you'll need to plug it in yourself and they usually run under $10. Good luck.

I have had great luck with Clarion's. They seem to play scratched cd's very well. Also, with all the mountains around here, a strong tuner is a must, and my clarions have beat all the alpines and kenwoods I have had.

Well I checked the local stereo shop and they wanted about 220 for an alpine installed. and I also checked the local wally world and got a Pioneer DEH-P3700MP with install kit and wiring harness for about $175. I had 2 gift cards from christmas ended up about $125. looks good and sounds great. I have a feeling I will be upgrading my speakers in the future.

Alpine or Pioneer seem to be the more durable to me. I have a Sony and the damn thing broke the 2nd week I owned it.

I just installed a kenwood x789 in my 02.

11 CD's worth of MP3's on 1 cd.

Enough said :)

I've gone through the CD twice since installing it.

Install took 15 minutes + 5 to crimp the wires together.

I used this http://www.crutchfield.com/S-3LbOolc5wAH/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=750&I=120701858&search=70%2D1858
+ the kenwood harness and I was good to go!

Just ordered another pioneer. I've been running a panasonic indash dvd player for a few years now, but it was time to make a switch to a pioneer(blue face matches my nu image diamond gauges and my new autometer c2 gauges). :naughty:

I would look for one that has an MP3 input on the front face. I have also heard that some of the newer units being shown at CES this week are sporting USB inputs (which is line-level), but I doubt that you'd see any of them under $200

So did you get another indash dvd? If so, wanna sell your other one, or did it die?

are you saying you can load mp3's onto your head unit? or is it just a high capacity CD that you burn it onto?

No, it's just a line-in right on the faceplate that allows you to plug an iPod or other MP3 player into it. I'd rather see that than have a hard drive imbedded in the head unit. The price of MP3 players is going down and will continue to do so. Plan for the future mon.

It's pretty much had it. It has a hard time taking in and spitting out the cd/dvds. I think either the motor is about shot or its filled up with dust. I'm going to probably take it apart and look at it, and if its fixable, I'll probably throw it in my other ride. I wouldn't feel comfortable selling it to someone not knowing when it could go out, you know.
