Steering wheel shakes

I have a 1993 Lebaron LE and when the car is in idle the steering wheel shakes its kinda hard to describe but I tried injector cleaner and that seemed to help out the shakyness. Once it gets warmer where I am ill have the spark plugs and the wires going to the sparkplugs replaced with new ones to see if that helps out. Any ideas what might be causing this? Also I did the check engine code and all I got was 55 which is the end of codes code for me.

I would do a tune-up. New plugs, wires, cap & rotor, air filter, fuel filter, clean the throttle body and pcv valve, and change the fluid and filter in the trans. Wel, atleast thats what my tune-ups are. Also, put a bottle of injector cleaner in every other gas tak, it will help, and if you really don't want carbon in there, get some "SeaFoam" cleaner and put it in a spray bottle and spray it through the throttle body (I wouldn't recommend putting it in your tank, it will eat the fuel pump)

O_O that sounds expensive how much would that run me if I had a mechanic do it?

Well, I'n not exactly sure,I can give you the cost of the parts, every shop you bring it to will be a different amound for labor but the parts are about;
These are the cost that i can get them yours might be a little different
Plugs- $10
wires- $25
cap- $15-20
rotor - $5
air filter- $8
fuel filter- $10
Throttle body cleaner(Use it for the pcv valve also)- $5
Trans service kit (Filter and gasket)- $12
ATF+3 fluid $2 per qt, need about 5 $10
So for parts your looking at about $105.
You may also want them to chech your belt tensioner, they go bad too and then the bely flies off. But make sure that you get them to use the ATF+3 in the trans, do not let them use dextron 3 with lubegard. Also, do you change the oil oftean?
It may be a good time to have them check your suspension and brakes and do a cooling system flush.

that pricing for the parts themselves doesnt sound too bad. I had an oil change not too long ago and my radiator was flushed out last year and im getting the brakes checked this saturday. When I had my oil changed about 1 month ago I think they topped off my trans fluid but they didnt tell me what they were putting in there. The automatic transmission seems to be still running with out a problem.

Yeah, the radiator should be taken care of every other year or at the least, every 3 years. I would check to make sure that the correct fluid gets in there.

thank you for your advice boogieman142. The place im going to for the brake check also does a coutesy check ill make sure to tell them to put the right trans fluid in if it needs it. and if the brakes need changing ill have them rotate the tires while they are doing it. since they have to take the tires off anyway :grinyes:
