i have a 92 240sx with the redtop sr20det and i took it out for the first time in a couple months today. while i was sitting at the bank drive through, i noticed my temp gauage was almost spiked. the electric fan was on. as soon as i would take off driving, the temp would almost immediately go down to normal... any ideas?

shitty thermostat / water pump?
I'd bet the water pump is going out and is starting to need some RPM behind it to move enough water.
Have you checked the seep hole on the pump?

it could be the actuall gauge...i know many oem gauges are weighted towards the center so when they do go over the center part its like nuts but they drop a little below and they go back down to the center...a saturn at the shop i was at for a summer job had that same problem but hey it was a saturn... hah

the water pump was leaking when the motor was first running last year... right out of the seep hole... then suddendly it quit leaking... havnt noticed any leaking since... where are the thermostats on those things?

under the intake manifold before the lower radiator hose.
maybe you have air in the system... I'm thinking about getting one of those expansion tanks tommorow.
