Death of a GT4

Rest in Pieces GT4
Well, it looks like the boost spike yesterday has killed her after all…on the way to work this morning doing a steady 70mph when “Bang”…..dead, felt like i`d run over a big pot hole, little puff of something out the front drivers side of the bonnet. At first I thought the cam belt had snapped, but no its still in place, just very loose, then I’m thinking that the cam belt tensioner has given up the ghost, best case scenario is the tensioner. Worst case is a busted piston. No steam, oil is OK, cooling water is still OK (no mayo)
Pretty p*ssed off with it now….sick of throwing money at the dam thing. Choices are….fix it…better the devil you know etc
Buy the nice yellow one I have seen down south and swap good bits over then scrap it.
Buy a run around and do a mega build but I don’t really want more problems associated with doing this.
Fix it as best I can cheaply, flog it and get something different.
Will strip the engine down this weekend, look at the damageand make my mind up then but to be honest I cant be bothered with it.
More than likely i will break her up, it might rise from the ashes but I doubt it....stay tuned.

it hurts to hear that, i think the best bet would be to buy the yellow one, and swap on your good parts, unless you want to put the cash into it to get the thing fully built, stronger, faster, and more powerfull, the six million dollar engine ha ha,

You posted that your apexi setting messed up before the GT4 died. Can this be a cause? bc I've wanted to know how to tune an apexi eventually, and this is a chance for speculation. :)

To be honest I dont know if it is the cause or not....I think it is a likely cause due to the closeness of the failure to the boost spike, although I cant think how a boost spike would snap a cam belt / destroy a cam belt tensioner, unless the water pump or oil pump siezed????
I have since learned what the settings should be on the apexi. Will look at the damage this weekend. I think the car will rise again...maybe a little different than before.....maybe a little more powerfull...maybe a little lighter...who knows....it`ll be a nice suprize.

most definitely, get it up and running. GT4's habitat is not in the yard! Most of us here will do so if given the chance to own an st205. About boost "jumps" breaking cam belts, maybe sudden heat? or maybe misaligned cambelt causes the boost to jump? actually I wouldn't know shit :P??? well whatever 'tis, bon chance, hopefully you'll keep us posted!

Well started work on the repair today...revealed a complete mystery....tha cam belt is OK and correctly tensioned....but somehow the inlet cam has slipped 110degrees out of position in relation to the exhaust cam...how this happened I dont know....more investigations to come.

I have that same light lol
I was quite suprized how much heat it gives off....it was very cold today, but i was toasty warm from the heat from the light.....made working on the car alot easier.

Well, the Vette is my daily driver for a while now, zero to top speed in about 2 seconds...three gears including reverse. working pop up head lights, 1 mile to a charge, radio, light weight, dosnt need petrol.....ever. 2 seater, convertable. Only problem is the lack of boot space and the flowers on the hood :?....currently faster than my GT4.

did u use a liquid or sold based polish? id watch out if u used a liquid base, those TPS sensors hate any kind of liquid

I used a paste bast polish and wire wool....its amazing how good wire wool is at polishing steel and alloy components.
