Laquer gone wrinkly!

Hi All,

I'm quite new to all this. At the moment I am building a Tamiya S2000, I put on some laquer and after an hour of so of it drying it has gone all wrinkled on about 90% of the car. Is there a reason for this?
I used Halfords automotive clear laquer, the top coat is Tamiya Acrylic Spray (cant remembe the TS code). Is this due to a reaction between the two? I used these 2 combinations before but not with a metallic colour.

Two reasons:

1.) You didn't use primer, so the lacquer paint attacked and crazed the plastic (essentially melting it)

2.) The Halfords was still gassing out when you applied Tamiya's clear coat over it. If you're gonna mix different brands you should at least wait a week to a month. Myself, I would have used Halford's own gloss clear coat and followed the directions.

Actually I did use primer.

Thanks for the info though, Its been flattened with some wet and dry paper ready for its primer again...

As far as I know, Ta,iya paint is not acrylic ... Maybe when you used it over metallic, the flakes sort of held the paint together ... Dunno :);)

Don't mix paint !

I got the same problem with Testor paint and Automotive Lacker.

Now i use both Testor with awersome result.

Since you are new to this, it could even be the orange-peel effect that most people get. Maybe it is, and you don't know it. Use Tamiya Cutting Compound or any kind of rubbing/polishing compound to rub it to a shine.

It was just a thought, it sounds exactly what happened to me. Luckily I realized it was the orange peel that everyone was talking about.
