Hi,

I'd like to start working on my own vehicles, as the price of taking it to a shop is getting really anoying.

I love working on engines... but todays engines need that extra god forsaken thing called a computer. (yeah, i USED to work on 'em)

So, I need to trouble shoot my boneville... it runs bad, and has been in the shop many times. I'm tired of spending all that money, and getting no where.

First off, i know i need a computer link of somekind to get the error codes. Could someone point me in the right direction for a decent one?

Whats the average cost for one.... and can you usually use the same computer on multiple vehicles?

yup... i'm new here. ;)

'99 Pontiac Bonneville. I think it has that '3800' engine.

You will need an ob11 scanner for full function operation or just a 50.00 code reader, with no running info other than code for the CEL. All major parts stores have different levels of scanners.

Will that ob11 scanner also work on my '95 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Make sure it is OBD11 or obd1, a dedicated obd11 scanner probably won't work on 95, look at the emissions label under the hood see if it says obd11 certified.
