braking issue

I just replaced the front brake pads on my 98 Civic EX with parts I got from Honda. With the old brakes I used to press the brake pedal just a little before feeling them grip, but now I have to press the pedal about half way. Is this normal, or did I do something wrong when installing?

I'm pretty sure it's normal, same thing happened to me after I put on honda pads. I think that the honda pads are thinner than other pads, but are made from heavier material. If the brakes work fine then I wouldn't worry about it.

no, just replaced the pads.

You usually don't need to bleed the brakes if your are just replacing pads. Different pad compound will act different from the others. But you should try to bed the brake pads. Read this site:

As long as overall braking distance is uncompromised, you should not be alarmed.
