Brake prob?

My wife has a 2000 Bravada. When applying the brakes and nearly at a stop, you can feel the brake pedal jump? Any ideas?

My 92 has a clunk under similar situations. I determined it was bushungs, mainly the torsion bar bushings. Not a saftey issue. I'm going to put a bushing kit in as soon as it gets warm enough to work in the garage again.

The way to check for bushing noise is to jump on the bumpers and rock the car as hard as you can in park. The noise will probably not be as loud as when you brake, a 2000 lb vehicle coming to a stop at 2g's puts 4000 lbs pressure on the bushings and i only weigh.... oh never mind.

Does the jump in the brake pedal only happen when coming to a stop or does it occur when braking hard at speed?

If it happens only when coming to a complete stop it could be the ABS (aniti-lock braking system) not seeing the signal from the brake pedal lamp switch and adjusting pressure after seeing the wheel speed sensor signal a stopped wheel and not knowing you're braking. Check to see if your brake lights come on. Even if they do, replace the switch first. It costs less than $10 and is easy to replace.

One jump of the pedal, just before a complete stop, you can feel it in your foot. More than likely the front caliper bushings are at fault. VERY common problem, this kit should be installed with every brake job.
