I recently began installation of a new dash cd player. I spliced the old 1991 wires and connected them to the new wires which have a connection for the new cd player. The cd player worked but now when I try to start the car it won't even attempt to start. It won't turn over or anything. I have checked all of the fuses in the fuse box under the steering column. What is my next step? All of the other electronics including head lights, dome light, windows, and gauge lights still work. Thanks for any help

Did the car ever start with the new CD installed. is the Battery CHARGED. Are your Battery connections clean? Turn the headlights on and try to crank it over, if the headlights go dim, the starter or selinoid is ka ka, or you may have a dead battery. If everything checks out good, have someone turn the key and tap on the starter motor with a hammer at the same time.
If you get it started, report back here and let us know your findings.

Def the battery imo . Same thing happened to me. The radio uses less to run. The starter to fly wheel take much more to turn. Charge it then tell us if it worked. Try Dino's ideas too. Cause it really could be anything.

The Battery just sounds like it was drained, most likely from having the doors open while you installed the CD player, with the dome lights being on the whole time. atleast thats what i can gather. Check or charge the battery though like the others mentioned.

Have to agree with you, GB. Sounds like the battery.
It seems like our trucks will burn down a battery pretty quickly, charge her up and try to crank her.

Thanks a lot guys. Yeah, it's very strange. The battery is strong. I can have the headlights, blower fan, turn signals, dome light, everything on, working normally. When I turn the key they all go off, but as soon as I release the key they all work normally. I've checked every fuse I can find, even two relay switches I found under the hood, right below the drivers side of the windshield. I am really stumped. I feel like I've blown some kind of ignition fuse, but can't locate a blown fuse. Every other electronic gizmo on the truck works.

Questions:

Any possible way I blew a fuse connected directly to the starter? If not, what else can I check. When I try to start the truck I hear the what I think is the fuel pump come on for apprx 5 seconds or so, so I think it's getting power.

I also considered the idea that I might have a bad starter, but it wasn't going bad before all this happened, so it's not as if it's not as if it was wearing out; but any chance I might have buned out the celonoid with all my wiring?

Everyone I've talked to has told me that there's no way I could have created this problem by cutting the wires behind the older cd player when I was pulling it out, but could there be a problem with a cut wire (behind the cd player) and not a blown fuse?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have someone give your battery a jump. Just because everything will come on doesn't mean you have enough amps in the battery. If I'm not mistaken, headlights and radio should turn off when your trying to start the engine. That is because the starter needs all the juice it can get to turn over.

This happens with several vehicles. I don't know if it's because of the way that they wire them or if the starter just sucks all the power.
I haven't noticed if my Blazer is like this.

So I have to say that it is a perfectly normal condition. You just don't notice it until you have a problem

This is normal, and is designed this way, check your wiring, you could have cut into something by mistake, take a look at your wiring.

I know this is a pain. Disconnect new cd player and then try starting. If all connections look good, your going to have to work in reverse of what you did to find the problem. If everything was fine before the cd install and now it's not. Undo everything and start over.

Im not sure but did you remove the stock radio and add an aftermarket or did you just add the second radio as an auxilliary. What I suggest is if everything works with the stock radio put back, leave the stock radio and attach the new radio to the auxilliary at the back with an addon device that plugs into the aux port. Check this diagram to see if you wired everything correct
