I have a 1998 Blazer, and I am tired of the crappy stock mirrors that always break on the bottom. So after having this happen twice to me now, I decided to upgrade to the 99+ mirrors. The wiring harness does not connect right up on the newer mirrors, so I cut off the harness of my old mirrors to wire up my new ones. Both harnesses have 2 black wires, and then like a purple, yellow, and green wire. Does anyone have any idea what these wires do so that I can properly connect it to my new mirrors?

Pick up a haynes manual and it has the wiring diagram in it for the outside power mirrors.
Right outside mirror:
Lt Blue and Lt Grn/Blk - ECB
Yellow/Blk - Motor Up/Down Switch
White/Blk - Motor Left/Right Switch
Left OUtside Mirror:
Lt Blue/Lt Grn - ECB
Yellow - - Motor Up/Down Switch
White - Motor Left/Right Switch
ECB connections go to Mirror position switch inside truck.
From the switch in the truck
Like to like on all connections with the exception of the ECb wires that connect to the Light blue from the interior switch.
Black to Ground
Orange to Fuse block courtesy fuse 2 (hot at all times).
Hope this helps.

Glad I was able to help. You should probably still get a Haynes manual, they are fairly cheap and an invaluable resource.

Got the mirrors in today and wired them up using my old harness. These mirrors are a HUGE upgrade from the older ones from the 98. These are much more sturdy and do not shake when driving.

Did you get the ones with or without the defrosters on them?

I got the ones with the defrosters, because the ones I had previously also had the defrosting feature.

What would be the easiest way to get to this circuit? Should I use one of those tapping fuses in the fuse blocK? Where are the defroster circuit wires found?

I have a question about the wiring. I did the conversion, but it is not working right.
Up/down works perfectly
left/right works the opposite of the way I'm pushing.
I haven't bothered with defroster yet.
The 99+ mirrors have 5 wires... White, Light Green, Yellow, Black, and another Black. The original harness has 4 wires... White green yellow and light blue.
Right now I have:
white (from switch) connected to white (on mirror)
Yellow (from switch) connected to green (on mirror)
Green (from switch) connected to yellow (on mirror)
Light Blue (from switch) connected to nothing
What's wrong? Rlith help!

Connect the yellow to the yellow, and the green to the green. When I switched up my harness, all of the colors matched up, what year do you have?

I have a 96.
When I connected the 3 wires that actually lined up the mirror went whack. It wouldn't go up or down, but diagonal in any directoin it wanted. I think it has something to do with the light blue not being connected...

Maybe I just don't understand the problem, I matched the colors perfectly to the new mirrors and they work perfectly. Maybe switch the two black ones around if it doesn't work.

Mine is a 98. I have no idea what wires came from the switch, what I did was hack the plug off of my 98 mirrors, and then I put it on the new mirrors, and everything works

well, i went through the hassle of hooking the mirrors up today, and boy was it a task.. on the 96's you cant just match the wire because they wont work correctly, in fact.. i cant even get them to move in the riight direction, but i ave up.. right now the up and down motions work correctly, but the left and right are opposite, it doesnt bother me, but yeah..

Yeah, that's exactly what my mirror does, it's been that way since febraury!

i dont really find a need to fix it, i mean how often do you need to change the position of the mirrors. y'know.? but hey, were all different..
