so my check engine light has been going on and off for a while now. everytime i dump the codes it says its the egr. i had my husband change the egr valve and he also cleaned it the best he could but i still get the code. what could it be and how do you recomend cleaning.

also, i had my transmission rebuilt about a year and a half ago. this morning i get into my rodeo and can not push the button on the shifter to get it into gear. i finally got it to work but am wondering if that is a tranny problem or something else. YES, i was pushing the break since that is the first thing my husband asked when i called.

please help!!!!!!!

What year? Mileage? Engine?

Also, what code is the CEL throwing?

There have been times if my auto is on a good tilt, the button won't push in either, and I've had to REALLY push hard on the brake to release it. I've only had that happen a time or two, though, and I'm on the original tranny at 150k - no issues in the shifting though.

I believe mine, at those times, were due to the emergency brake adjustment being too loose and not holding the truck, putting all the weight on the tranny.

Look at the oxygen sensors. That year/model probably has three of them.

it says its the egr/ i keep having it done at auto zone so im not sure of the exact code # but i know it says egr. as for the other problem.... it seems to be shifting gears just fine but i was not on a tilt when the button wouldnt push. i was in a parking lot. do you think it could be the tranny or something else. how would i check the e brake

Do you have the hand lever in the center or under the dash foot pedal?

As to the EGR, is your CEL flashing? or steady?

Also, is your truck idling funny, stalling, etc.?

In regards to the auto lever button, I'm not quite sure why it would do that on a flat surface. But, when you look at the dash, does the transmission gear panel on the dash light up with the gear the lever is in?

the check engine light is steady when it is on and off when it is off. it switches back and forth every so often but is on most of the time.

i have the hand lever in the center, there is no dash light to show what gear it is in, it never stalls but does idle funny every once in a blue moon. ex, rpms go up slightly and then back down

There should be a verticle strip in the center of your driver's dash lights telling you what gear your transmission lever is in. If it doesn't light up, that could be the reason your push button is acting funny.

Meaning your lever is out of adjustment and/or your range sensor is acting goofy.

I'm wondering if you have an EGR issue or an intake manifold issue.

See if you can go to autozone and get the actual code # read and post back.
