electric fan

okay i have read most of the threads about electric fans and i havent found anywhere where it says that people are getting them from, my fan clutch went out about a year ago and i had it replaced and its better but the fan still blows really hard and loud from time to time expecially right after i start it and now it is starting to kick on at different times... id like to get an electric fan and get rid of this thing just so i dont have to worry about it anymore what do i need to do and where do i get the stuff

I thought that the only e-fan mod that any of us (whom have actually done it) endorse involves a fan from a Ford Taurus.

I'm about to hop out and quickly fix somethingunder the hood of my Blazer. I'll take a pic or 2 and submit them later tonight

I didn't mention, the Taurus e-fan is 2 speed, and I used a BMW 2 stage fan switch. I had to get an adaptor made up to fit the thermal swich into my intake manifold, but you might not have to. All the 2 speed thermal switches that I found are metric, and my intake manifold is standard pipe threading.

i went down to oreillys and talked to them and they have an electric fan in stock for 70 bucks anybody ever try theirs or not?

More than likely that's a hayden/imperial brand fan...Those things are horrible...

I had 1 aftermarket fan that sounded like a jet liner going for the crash landing.

Several of those e-fans are noisy, and displace less air than the taurus fan

And as you can see by my pic's it almost looks stock. I used the stock fan shroud

so i just can go to a bone yard and get a fan from a ford taurus and it will work just fine... what kind of installation am i looking at... or do i just get them to pull the part for me and everything will come with it or what?

You will need a thermostat switch and 2 relays and 1 diode, use the following diagram

this may sound stupid... but couldnt i just run the electric fan to a switch in my cab so i can control it and maybe make the installation easier? just a thought.. or would it not work??

You can do that but it's not adviseable...Why?

You still need to install relays, you don't want to have the fan drawing off your stock wiring harness, you want it to draw off the battery.

Second, what happenes when you forget to turn it on? You overheat. While you may think you will monitor the temp gauge at all times, do you really want to take the chance that one time you will miss it and overheat your motor?

Third, if you're gonna do something, do it right!

I did this on an old school hot rod, but never again. (that one with the noisy fan)

Like Rlith said you'll burn out the stock wiring without the relay. In my case I had wired a complete system from the battery onwords.

But it's so nice having everything automatic. Why own a 2 stage fan without both circuits working.

The complete job took me less than 2 hours. I flushed my cooling system and replaced the rad while I was at it. Total cost was less than $100.00 Canadian.

okay i understand your reasoning behind not running it to a switch in the cab.... now my next question is... is there somewhere where i can go to get a walk thru of how to do this... ive done auto work before but it was on an old jeep and i really dont want to screw up anything in my truck while im doing this change...
