transmission fluid change

I have a 99 CV. I was thinking of replacing the automatic trans fluid by using a pump to such up the trans fluid thru the dipstick. Approximately how much fluid can I replace doing it this way vs power flush vs changing filter and some fluid ? Thanks in advance for your replies

You may get 4 quarts out of the pan. That is an 11 quart + or - a 1/2 quart system. Also if the filter is dirty, you are not helping yourself any.

I would recommend using the following steps:
-Drop the pan, clean the pan & magnet, and change the filter. Reinstall the pan, reusing the original reusable gasket.
-Drain the torque converter thru the converter drain plug & reinstall plug
-Remove both tranny cooler lines from the transmission and flush the transmission cooler, preferably with a flush gun & some solvent, or with some "Kooler Klean" aerosol tranny cooler flush. Dry it out thoroughly with compressed air and reattach the lines.
-pour 8 quarts of Mercon V ATF in thru the dipstick tube. Start the car. Pour in 4 more quarts, cycle the shifter thru all positions, then check the fluid. You may need 1 more quart or so.

There is also a slightly different method available at crownvic.net under the tech link, which works fine. The method I outlined is IMHO better though. Either way you go, change the filter and ALL the fluid, or it's a waste of time.
