Engine problem

I have a 1999 with 157,000 miles on it and while it has been running good all along, the engine suddenly doesn't want to run, makes a LOT of noise, sounds like a bad diesel trying to start, and has no power.
It has been suggested to me that the timing belt broke. Thoughts or ideas?
Anyone every buy a rebuild engine for these?

figure what is wrong with your engine first (diagnostic/teardown time). I have not seen a 3.5L engine rebuilt yet. You will most likely want to get the $110 service manual set from the dealer and read up before you try anything.
Remember a 99 Intrigue is worth only $3k-5k, but starting a business that rebuilds the 3.5L may be priceless. But I'm sure more people are starting to look into rebuilding as an option. Swap to a 3.8L?
