Never pulled the distributor. Been having severe timing issues with my 2000 4.3L. I put the engine at #1TDC and the rotor didn't line up with the #1 post on the dist. cap. The rotor is just barely past the #6 post. As far as I know, I can't just rotate the dist., so what is the next step? I haven't a clue as to why it is this far out, I've never pulled the dist. and the truck ran fine for 5k miles after I got it.

you might just need the cam position sensor reset. i had removed and replaced the distributor and had the same code pop up. I talked to my buddy at the dealership and he had said that it just needed the cam position sensor reset. i got it done and worked perfect!

I didn't remove it before this problem was caused. I pulled it, replaced the pretty worn gear, and restabbed it. Seems to have fixed the problem. Cleared the code, I've cranked it about 5 times since then and driven it a few miles and it hasn't thrown yet. I'm still babying it though.

let me rephrase what i had said. I had removed and reinstalled my distributor after replace my intake manifold gasket. should you mash the gas pedal; and the code does pop back up. have the cam position sensor reset. the code wont pop up unless it is 2-6 degrees off.
