Posi trac rear ends.

on my 79 trans am i have the 3.23 detroit locker and Moroso ring & pinion rear end. And i know its normal to hear it clicking when your turning sharp turns but my questions are number 1 why does it click? and two is it harmfull to the car over time? thanks again

another question i have is whats the advantage to having both tires going at the same time. traction?

i dont know about the clicking..but if its normal, im guessing it cant be too bad.

its better to have both wheels locked because if it can, then when you launch for a drag race you have power to both wheels. what happens is that sometimes one wheel gets more power, or one wheel slips more..and you just get a one-tire-fire. only one wheel burns out, and you go nowhere...

with posi trac you can be sure that both wheels get almost the same amount of power so it launches better.

my posi doesnt click..it just burns out a tire when i make a turn fast...

The stock GM unit uses clutches and springs to lock the wheels together when one begins to spin or loses traction. The detroit locker is a totally different animal. It is a positive locking differential and when it is locked both wheels will turn equally. Most lockers use what look like cogs to lock together. When you go around a turn the cogs release and that is why you are hearing the clicking sound. This is so you don't destroy the locker on sharp turns. It is normal and unless you hear a grinding noise don't worry about the clicking.
