i just recently saved up enough money to finally get a 1979 T/A. i have not had alot of time to mess around with it yet although giving it being the holidays but the engine in it is a(Big Block) 400ci out of a 1969 pontiac bonneville. does anyone know if this is a good engine? or where i could find the specs for it? thanks. if there are any other tips you guys have about pontiac motors or the 79 trans am please let me know.
** Sorry i meant the engine is a 400ci out of an 68 bonneville
Im a newb sorry for the mistakes and messy forum skills.

Let's see a picture!
All Pontiac blocks from 287 thru 455 are the same physical size, so there are no big or small blocks.
There were two 400's offered in the '69 Bonnie. The engine codes (stamped with the VIN, located on the passenger side of the block) are: YA and YB. Both offer 265HP, 8.6:1 compression and 2 bl carb.
The 428 engines had the HP in that year - from 340-390.
They would be: WG - 340HP (manual shift)
WJ - 390HP (manual shift)
YH - 360HP (auto)
YK - 390HP (auto)
YL - 360HP (manual shift)

To be sure I was clear, I meant a picture of the car, not the engine :)
The '68 is quite a bit different:
WE - 340HP (MANUAL) CR 10.5:1 4 bl.
YE - 340HP (AUTO) CR 10.5:1 4 bl.
YA - 265HP (AUTO) CR 8.6:1 2 bl.
