My blazer has a new smell. its like oil gas and antifreeze all mixed together. not sure what end its from? i think its the front. when i walked around the front to pay for gas it was pretty strong. i figured it was just the gas station natural odor. but then i noticed it later at home. any 1 ever encounter this??

hmmm ... your radiator also has a small oil cooler inside ... notice the oil lines running into it ? hhhmmmm ... maybe there is an internal leak causing both oil and coolant to mix ??

you got any white smoke from the exhaust?

any overheating or oil pressure problems ?

Check your PVC valve. And any of the vents on the motor.
My guess is that something popped off.

Or you were driving behind someone loosing lots of fluids spraying them all over your ride for a while.

I once came across an interesting smell.. Then I took a bath and it was miraculously gone... :icon16:

Girlbear, I would start checking your fluids for intermixing.

You guys are Sofa King Hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ummmmmm, my little dude is in the Hospital again so I gotta make sure this beast runs propper. Daddy stays with him while Mommy works and commutes back-n-forth, And our truck runs pretty good except for this smell. And on to the smell. it is predominately antifreeze smell now. with the new thermostat its never overheated. When I topped off the system last time. you remember I changed the thermostat recently, i put clean H2O in the overflow. today the overflow is empty? is that ok?

Did you purge the system after you changed the tstat? Hopefully that is the problem. The system if it was really low in coolant will suck in fluid from the overflow. Top it up and see what happens. Other things that will cause the smell can obviously be a leak, either internal or externl leak, seeing you recently did your intake gaskets, make sure all is well in that area. Watch you oil for any signs of contamination.

Hmmm...could have taken up room of trapped air in the system. Top it off again and see what happens.

Also, check your oil and tranny fluid for contamination.

Sorry to hear about the little one being in the hospital again .After the intake manifold gasket change . Did you use a torque wrench with the assembly sequence and retorque after a few miles ? Athough mine is an older model (non-vortec) it called for a retorque . It may have coolant leakage into the intake passages .If you don't see any external fluids leaking , does the exhaust have any detectable white smoke(vapor)after the engine is warm? Q: GB, you have a house hubby? Kool . Rob

Drop some of your oil GB to see if any coolant got in there. Also check all your freeze plugs... Check around the manifold and the hoses themselves for any dried grunge matching the color of antifreeze (could be leaking and hiting a hot spot and simply burning up)

New Question. How much coolant & water should be in the system? ya know altogether. Oh and no leaks that i can spot, so far. ill check back in soon. might be a few days tho.

Coolant capacity for 4.3L V 6 is 11.9 quarts throught 2000.
2.2L 4 cyl is 11.5 quarts through 2000.

Hope the little one gets well soon.
