Activating monochromatic mirrors

I was playing around with the Temp/compass buttons on my 99 Tahoe when I inadvertanly turned off the auto dimming function (little green light is out). How Do I reenable it? The instructions say hold down the (right side of the) temp button...but this only changes the unit (f/c). Does anyone know how to turn them back on?
