Does GM have any plans?

Does GM have any plans on getting rid of their pushrod v8 engines? I know they have the Northstar 32valve, but do they plan to use it and dump the other engines (350 or whatever the new cubes are). Don't get me wrong, the 4.6Ford is good and the bottom end is actually stronger than the 5.0 & 5.8 (pushrod) engines. It's just, after 10 years of using the 4.6 in Mustangs I think there should be more progress than going from 215hp to 260hp(96-04). But, ofcourse they have 300hp now but they had to add an extra valve, 3 valves per cylinder. I know the Cobras had that in 96, but that's the Cobra. I JUST WISH FORD WOULD STICK WITH WHAT WORKS, AND THE 5.0 & 5.8 WORKED JUST FINE. Untill 93 when GM beefed up the 350 to 275hp then 285hp then 305(I think). Anyway, I just hope GM stays with the pushrod. I hate that Ford has those huge timmimg chains and two cams.

well the lt1 was still 5.7l, or 350 cubic inches, so you could call it a 350

yeah its the same rateing 350, we just dont always call them that now and days. what can we say man gm has a good thing going so why mess it up. a small block that can push out lots of power, ford well like i said before, they are more focused on being cost efficient and for many years have given up the few extra horses just to stay under budget. yes they have been slower over the years but they traded that off to sell more cars which in turn burried everyone else they were in compitition with.

Small block 16 valve pushrod???

i agree i would love to have a 6.2 s/c as an option for the corvette...i would like to see them keep the ls7 standard for the car and have the ls9 as an option like the copo from the late 60's and early 70's....the corvette will soon be too high for the average person to own...60k for the car that you get now is a great price but if it goes any higher it'll turn some against it...just my opinion

I agree a %100 with that. It's been getting more expensive each generation.

So has every other car. In 88 my Mom bought a brand new escort for $8,000. Now a Focus starts around $14,000 (don't quote me). Also you could buy a Mustang GT for about $18,000. Now they're around $30,000. God...I sound like my Grandpa...."I remember when I could buy a loaf of bread for a nickle". And I'm only 32. Can't wait to see what I'm like when I hit 50.

Yep, I agree. They tried to make it too much like the Vette. Don't quote me on this one either but, didn't GM start selling too many Z28/TA's compared to the Vette because they were so much cheaper and almost as good as the Vette in performance? I just hope when they come back that they are RWD and v6 and v8, and I hope they don't look like the GTO. BOARING, LOOKS LIKE LAST BODYSTYLE GRAND PRIX. For the Grand Prix they look good, but not for a "returning muscle car".

No way man, they look too much like the 03 or 04 GRand Prix. Which looks good, but it doesn't say "hello, here I am after 30 years, don't I look awsome?". It just says (in nerd voice) "hi, I couldn't think of a new mean looking bodystyle to wear, so I just threw this old thing on...hehee." The concept GTO that they had (atleast pictures of) looked mean. The front end looked like a 67, yet it still looked new. That's how the concept for the 07 Camaro is. All I'm saying is that for a car with that strong of a name (GTO) we should have been able to tell just by looking at it that it's a new GTO, just like the 05 Mustang and 05 Charger, not by looking for the name on the car, Look at the new Monte Carlo, you can tell that it's a Monte w/out looking for the badge. If they brought back the Chevelle, we would expect that car to make a statement after all these years. Wouldn't we want it to have that Chevelle look insted of looking like an 02 Cavalier?

Whoa, whoa, dont even bring in the Charger after saying the GTO looks like the GP, since a charger is a Magnum with a trunk and different front nose, and its not like a Charger brought a whole new powertrain like a GTO did to the Pontiac line up. I like the Monaro with a different badge and front nose..

Anyhoo, when I get straightened out here hopefully by the end of April, I'll post some Red Death Vids... Hopefully you'll be able to hear it over Earl farting.

Really sucks don't it... before GM went to then newer body style (2 back) in 99, a Z71 was a 3/4 ton pickup. Now if you have a Z71, it means you paid $500 for a bigger air cleaner and some ficking stuckers. Z71 = total wuss, soccer mom truck now.... trust me, I know, had a '97 Z71, and have a '05 Z71. I'd take my '97 over the '05 any day.
