The check engine light came on at around 62K. In the past the reason was the ill fated take into the dealer for the 60K checkup. Anyone know if the Vitara's have the same feature. ALL the Japenese vehicles I have owned has had this option. One car I just turned off the light, 300 dollar hoopdy, and the opthers there is always some connectors to be ground or swapped around to reset the counter. Does anyone know in fact if this model has it, and what is the procedure for resetting it. Not lookin to give the dealer some hard earned bux to reset.

Thanx, Kevin

I'm asuming that it's a 99+

They don't have anything that you have to reset on a schedule. Like a 30K, 60K, 90K interval.

I had mine come on a couple times. Once cause the gas cap wasn't on tight enough, and the other was a wire got cut in half going to the evap. canister

You have to get the codes checked out to see what it is. Any good garage should have a scanner.
Hope that helps, Mike

I have a 2001 Grand Vitara and after a small fender bender the service engine soon light came on. It was in the garage to be fixed from the wreck and the mechanic couldn´t find anything that would cause the light to come on and doesn´t know how to turn it off. The car runs fine. Any suggestions? I live in Costa Rica and most of the mechanics here are of the shade tree variety and don´t have the fancy equipment that is common place in the United States. I´d hate to have to make a 4 or 5 hour drive to San Jose and pay big bucks for something simple. I appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks, Carole
