Got my rear brake pads and rotors replaced on my 02 TB at a cost of $356.00. How bad did I get reamed? They did use the ceramic pads and the brakes do work great.

Premium rotors are about 120 each list, ceramics about 90.00 list.

Sounds like I did OK then... rotors were $75.00 each, ceramic pads were $69, complete vehicle inspection was $20, and labor was $109, + shop supplies and Uncle Sam's part. total was $356.13 out the door. -Don

They CHARGED you to inspect the vehicle even though they already had it on the hoist with two tires off?

I bet they used Chinese rotors, too.

They charged me the $20 before they started to do a complete vehicle inspection so they could give me an acurate quote on parts and labor for the job. After the inspaction, I could have taken the vehicle anywhere to have the work performed.

I would have expected that since you had the service work performed by them, they'd credit the inspection fee. Had you gone somewhere else, yes, the fee is appropriate.

The inspection works to their advantage, as it becomes a sales tool they can use. I just don't understand a joint that would charge for the inspection if you are/become an actual service customer.

If this "complete vehicle inspection" was one required by your state, and you got a year's certification, maybe. If the inspection was only to assess the need for repairs, I agree -- they should eat it if they do the work they uncover.

Christ, I replaced all the pads, rear rotors, and e-brake pads in less than an hour, why not do it yourself? Its easy.

Question, when you replaced the Ebrake pads, does your Ebrake actually hold your TB now? Mine doesnt, and I doubt it ever has, and I have adjusted the lever.

Less than an hour?, you beat both guys in my shop by a lot, of course the e brake linkages are always rusted up here in upstate NY.

They actually make a shoe gage to adjust the rear e brakes, but I usually adjust them with some drag and retest the adjustment to feel the parking brake position and the fact that the wheels do not turn and of course release, the updated hardware from GM eliminates the problems with the shoes not returning and wearing out, then of course they will not hold, crappy system though, they went back to rear drums on the c/k series.

You may want to hurry those guys up a little. LOL.

Actually, I did my fronts only yesterday, but I did do it in less than an hour. I doubt the back would have taken much longer.

And for the prices above, WOW. I went to Advance Auto and got the Bendix pads for $50 and the rotors were $36 each.

That's actually a pretty good shop rate. A typcial dealer charge in the Buffalo NY area for a single axle brake job is ~$400 if they can salvage the rotors/drums. It's ~$600 per axle if the rotors/drums need to be replaced!!!:banghead: Totally insane. Brakes are too easy to do to pay someone.

G/luck

Good luck with the Chinese rotors and GM and most am brake manufacturers recommend ceramics on the TB.
