plexiglass box

Well, first off, plexiglass is not going to sound the same as MDF, which is what most good enclosures are made of. So, it's goinf to sound different than a wood box. That particular plexiglass box looks pretty well made, and it doesn't look like it would rattle. I'd stick with MDF, though. or go fiverglass...

Plexiglass is an entirely different material, and is more dense (is that the proper way to say that?) than MDF would be. I might be wrong, it's happend before. I'm not saying it's going to sound bad, or even extremely different. Just not the same.

does anyone have a plexiglass box? or know someone with one to give me first hand experience on how it sounds

if the box doesnt flex it doesnt matter what it is made out of :)

As long as it's thick enough, and sized and tuned well then it will sound just as good as MDF.

i think i might do it.. but not sure yet but i'll post up my install either way

i would actually advise against it unless you either have a lot of money to have it well made by somebody who knows what theyre doing, or a LOT of patience if you decide to do it yourself. plexiglass scratches liek you wouldnt believe, oh and no sanding over little mistakes either

honestly reconsider my advice in my previous post.. but yeah if its rigid then it should sound the same. there may be some very slight difference in sound but i would bet that with bass notes you wouldnt be able to tell much anyways. ive heard a few plexi boxes.. two out of 3 sounded very good

i don't think i'm going to do a completely plexiglassbox but i might used some thanks for the info

I would never even consider making a whole sub box out of plexi ..... one side should be enough. If you're gonna use plexi, remember that they can see in the box, so you might wanna paint it or do something cool inside.

To answer you question, as long as the plexi does not vibrate it will sound the same as mdf that doesn't vibrate. The vibration will "color" the sound because it will vibrate and sound nasty.

Personally, my next "box" will be made of 1/2" steel :rofl:
