OK, I'm either plain dumb or an idiot. I have an 88 Bronco with Man hubs I'm trying to remove to replace the rotors. I have a Hayne's manual (mostly useless). The maual states in the following manner:
1:
remove the allen screws (done)
2: remove the cap (done)
3: Using a screw driver, remove the hub lock ring (Done, but it is behind the snap ring stated in #5)
4: Remove the stop screw (which doesn't exist) in the outer portion then slide the inner portion out (Got it out).
5: Remove the snap ring (Done, as stated in Number 3)
6: Slide the body assembly out of the wheel hub using either the appropriate puller (Which would be what???) or two cap screws (tried the screws, got nowhere.

Screwing around, I was able to push the axle inwards, but still get no play in the outer protion. I've sprayed the entire inner hub assembly clean with brake cleaner to verify I'm not missing something, but see absolutely nothing holding the outer portion in. What am I missing, besides a brain??? I'm miffed...

if you refer to Haynes manual page 8-21 you can look at the picture at the bottom right corner. The lock ring you are looking for is not on the hub body, it is on the hub. If you look on the inside of the hub you will see a groove and there is a lock ring in it, you will probably need a small flathead or machinist scribe to get it out. hope this helps.
