Transmission DOWN!!!

HI guys..

first of all happy new year..

today l washed my car and l wanted to drive to mail box and come back home. distance is like 500 feet. l drove to mail box and while l was coming back, the car started to make some weird noise. and l found out it was TRANSMISSION! the problem is this, transmission is grinding and the car is shaking as a result! the idling is perfect, engine is ok but when l put the car on gear, the car starts to shake, like braking and moving and repeats this all the came..

what do you think is the problem?? and what would u suggest?

BLame your wife, lol, tell her she did it when she took it for a drive doing 50mph in 1st gear. It is a stick right?

Check the driveshaft. This sounds more like an issue with a u-joint than the transmission itself. It would also make sense that when the car is idling you don't hear anything but when you put it into gear the you hear the noise. Also make sure the exhaust is not hitting something.

If the u-joints check out then I would pull the dust cover and make sure that the flywheel has not broken. Since you weren't really doing anything when this started it sounds like something simple is causing the issue. Otherwise you will need to get the transmission scanned to see what is actually going on. If you need a tranny rebuild, $1800 will do the trick. Let us know what you find out!

l got autosave warranty (engine & transmission) if l would know what the problem is, l would go to their web site and check if mine it is covered..

man, the car is moving but l am not driving it.. l dont wanna fuck it all the way.

it has 127k miles
new water pump, new heater hoses new tranny mount, new tires and and new flowmaster exhaust system. also it is 97 formula. (all parts are from pontiac delaler and ORIGINAL)

if l would try to sell it, how much would it be worth?

Flywheel is inbetween motor and tranny, the starter hits it and that it what starts the motor, there is a black plastic cover over it, just take it off and take a look, but that will not look good going to the car dealer wanting to trade it in and having to have it towed, i don't think they will think to much of it, lol. I would just crawl under the car and shake some stuff make shure nothing is loose or leaking.

anyway.. so have u ever heard of a similar problem from anyoneelse? if it is tranny and if it is not covered by my warranty company.. l will not get it fixed and l will sell it and get a 2005 brand new mustang GT (premium package) what do u think about that car? is that faster than 2002 trans-am/formula ws6s? l know l will owe a lot ofmoney but l want a new sports car and mustang seems the cheapest and because of my wife l will get at least 2k discount.

l love birds but l started to hate them.. l had a lot of problems with this car and l cant handle anymore..

a 02 ws6 will blow the doors off that GT. I would get it towed just to be safe.

If you can't look under the car to see if anything is wrong I would tow the car to the dealer or a mechanic to get it checked. I really don't think this is anything that is going to cost you major bucks because of the way it first started making the noise. Of course I have been wrong before! Please let us know what you find.

OR, you can get a ( i know a 4 cyl, but not bad) New ss supercharged colbalt!! They are like $25,000 and are good on gas and are pretty quick, for a 4 banger.

u respect being called gay? not trying to make fun but i found that strange, the camaro is the sma epower plant as friebird so ya, but the camaro is comming out in 07 but when it comes out pontiac HAS to make something so they are either going to make a new firebird, i hear some people talking about this, OR they have to make a new muscel car, so it shoule be interesting to see. They also NOW have the new ss supercharged montecarlo it is v6 supercharged so not to slow, think about that.

There will be no firebird in '07. It has to do with legal mumbo jumbo about the contract with canada (where the f-body plant was) and the name "firebird". Something like...if GM closes the plant before the contract date...they can't use the "firebird" name on anything else for like a 100 years or some shit. I dunno why the camaro name isn't in the same situation. I read about it like 3 years ago...so im sure im not 100% accurate. Anyone else who knows about this legal aspect feel free to correct me.

i would imagine GM could bring anything it wanted back...with the right cash thrown at the canadian gov't. Then again, GM isn't in a position to throw cash around like it once use to.

l called many different mechanics today about my problem. and some of them told me, it might be DRIVETRAIN. some of them told me it might be ENGINE MOUNT. some of them told me it might be TRANSMISSION related and they asked me if l checked the exhaust.. if it is touching anywhere..

l am really confused right now.

l called a chevy dealer today and they will come and tow the car it is like 4 miles away and they asked 66 bucks for towing and 95 bucks for diagnostic.

god l am going crazy..

127,000 miles, it is time to trade it in, it is at the point where it is still worth something and still has life left. Right now is probly the right time to trade it in, it is when u can get the most money is now. with 127,000 more problems are just going to start comming, like fuel pumps, altanators, waterpumps, shit like that, and i don't think you are gay by the way, lol.

Might be tranny mount...they aren't the best stock but are pretty cheap. $30 or something like that for the autos.
If it is a motor mount...that shouldn't be too bad either.

And importeater....the Firebird name was retired by GM. Not Camaro. Sadly, this means we will never see another Firebird.
But Camaro on the other hand....should be out in 2-3 years. Maybe sooner, but I would guess later.
There was a contract that GM had with Canada concerning the plant that would build the F-Bodys. Had to be in Canada up until a certain year...I am not sure of that year though. 2007 sounds right, but I am not 100% on that.
Well, that Canada plant has been torn down as far as I know. GM had to wait until that contract was up to start any kind of production on the Camaro nameplate.

guess what happened to me again.. l towed the car to achevy delaer and they checked and they called me and they said that it was transmission. and l said ok but what is in transmission what is the excat problem. he said l dont know l gotta take the tranny down open it and look inside. and l said how much is that gonna cost me he said it is 5 hours job and it is gonna be 500 bucks and l called my warranty company and thye were closed. and l told the dealer dont do anything. l am gonna call tomorrow and hopefully the warrany company will tell me something good. they are gonna open the trany and let us know what is the problem. if it is covered. warranty company will pay for everything. if it is not covered, l will pay 500 bucks and take the car back and sell it.
