Book Writing Question

Hey guys I'm wondering - Within the next year I plan to write a book. All details of the book itself aside, here's the scoop: I want to be able to sell it online, and don't neccesarily want to get a publisher. How would I go about securing a copyright or a patent-kind-of thing? I just want my book to be protected after I start selling it so that noone else can copy it and sell it. And if I sell it successfully without any protection, that's bound to possibly happen. Anyone here ever written a book, or have any input?

Try checking out the US Patent/Trademark Office website for starters :)

http://www.uspto.gov/

You may also give a shot at writing to agents of well-known authors to see what kind of processes they went through.

Awesome. Thanks. I'll check that shit out - probably write a low-end author or two as well. Any other ideas?

I know that bookstores carry informational books about publishing and the likes. I'm sure you'd be able to find a book on it at your local Barnes and Noble or Borders. Best of luck on the book .

I'm gonna have to hit up Schuelers for that info you reffered to, Swigz. Thanks.

And to answer your question, Bent: without going into detail, I can tell you it falls under the success/money/motivational series of books - it's going to be a mid-sized E-Book.

This book doesn't happen to be titled, "How To Be Successful: Sell An E-Book About How To Be Successful", by any chance? :D

What the hell am I doing on af, I'm on vacation :p
