i had posted a thread earlier this week but should've given the details-i was driving my car and it started to jerk and then cut off in the road. i pulled it on the side and tried starting it but it was only turning over but the engine wasn't cranking. I had to pull it home. it still is not starting. i ahve one of those helms manual and did all the checks that it suggested (i.e. checked the coil(which i already replaced), my fuel pump in running, checked the icm and it is getting the correct voltage, checked continuity which is good, and even bought a new battery). i read on this forum that a starter would not cause the car to cut off but i'm out of options. the spark plug wires are also fairly new. i really need to know what it is. i ahve been without my car since last friday. even though i checked the icm could it still be that.oh, i'm not getting any spark either. i need help fast!thanks everyone!

checking the coil and icm is not always full proof that they are working properly. the best test on the coil and icm is just swapping them out for known good ones. assuming you posted in the 92-95 forum, im assuming you have a 92-95 civic. any icm from any 92-95 civic will fit. any 92+ civic and 94+ teg coil will work. or you can swap out the dizzy from a friend to see if that solves the problem. hows the spark plugs themselves? properly gapped? cap and rotor looks good? also, make sure your cam timing is in spec with the helms.

no spark = problem in the ignition system itself or power problems going to the ignition system. so it wouldnt hurt to check to see if your battery is putting out enough voltage. if the dizzy itself and its components check out fine, use the helms and a multimeter to track the connections from the the battery to the underhood fuses to the ignition to the dizzy.

good luck.

thanks for the quick reply. i have a 92 civic ex. Question- so would the spark plugs cause the car not to start or should the plug wires give the plugs the juice? also when you say check the battery ofr voltage would i have to do that even if the battery is very new? would the starter motor or something cause this also before i attempt to take it out?

maybe its just your fuel pump, maybe u can ear it but if it doest keep the volume, its not good .the best thing to do is for now is , when its gonna act up u have to check the fuel pump presure and will see after .......

even if he is getting fuel he still isn't getting spark like he said... no spark = no run, no matter how much fuel you're getting

thanks for the inputs from everyone. i had a honda technician come to my house today and after looking at my car he determined that the timing belt was popped. i had already taken out the starter earlier to test it and everything was working. we put it back in started the car and he screwed off the valve cap and didn't see the cam spinning. so we took off the valve cover to check for bent valves and thank God there were none. i'm getting ready to change the timing belt later in the week when the tech has time and hopefully that should be that. i'll post the results of that later this week.thanks again!-a.capone.

wow that must be scary crap to have your timing belt snap on you. You ARE lucky nothing bad happened, since valves usualy bend badly when your belt snaps WHILE driving. Same happened to my cousin though. He was driving and the engine just died.. Nothing else and no other problems. All valves ok. Glad everything is worknig out

Ok here are the results: The technician from honda came by the house today to change the timing belt and after taking it out the teeth in the belt were missing(stripped they call it). He put the new timing belt on, i started the car and: Happ new year! My civic started. He didn't even take long to do it either. So even though i had a manual and did all the electrical checks(changed the coil and even) the problem came down to the timing belt being stripped and the cam not turning.I would have never thought that the timing belt would've been the cause to it not starting. As opposed to the starter, spark plug wires, fuel pump, compression,or the distributor. I am very happy to be on the road again all rims up.This cals for a celebration.Think i'm gonna hi-tech up the audio(affordibly) just for that. But i must say that credit goes also to superbluecivicsi also for telling me to check the cam. That sort of got me thinking.Thumbs up! And to those who gave their advice as well, thumbs up too. I feel good. belt fixed, car runnning,no bent valves or other problems.Feels like the old prohibition days- a. capone out!

When you begin to start your car is there any noise of fuel pump if no check the main relay (grey box near fuse area). It may not work. I had such a problem then I replace the main relay and car starts normaly. Greetings.

Yeah I was going to say the timing belt snapped. I was at my girlfriend's school waiting for her to get out and I started to drive her home and my car died and I could hear the starter but the engine wasn't turning over so I was like what the hell. And my water pump was bad too. But thank god for Honda, when you put a new timing belt it's like you have a new car again. Anyways you can tell if it is the timing belt by having someone start the car and opening the oil cap to see if your cams are turning. But hey I did have a question... what are the best spark plugs for a Honda? Densos?? Thanks
