I have a 1991 Chevy Blazer 4x4, V6. I changed my pickup coil and when I started the truck my oil guage goes way up and I get oil coming out of the oil fill spout and white smoke. The truck does make a knocking noise at first start and then quites down a little bit. But before I had changed the pickup coil, I never had any knocking noise or oil discharging out of the oil fill spout, or white smoke and my oil pressure was reading just under 40psi. I was wondering when I had taken out the distributor if chunks of sludge might have blocked the passages for the oil. Any suggestions would be of great help, before I tear out the whole engine.

Sixpaws4This may not be the cure-all for your problem, but it is a place to start. Although it is not impossible that you might have knocked some sludge loose, the problem is that you seem to be pressuizing your crank case.

Try replacing the PCV Valve. But before you do, pull the PCV valve out of the Rocker Arm Cover, then while the engine is running, pull the PCV valve from the Hose. The engine might stall. Check to make sure you have good vacuum, if not, you may have a plugged line or port. If you find this is the case, try spraying Carb cleaner into the port or replacing the Hose, which ever seems appropriate.

As a double check, make sure your oil level is at the proper mark on the dipstick and that you don't have a crankcase full of antifreeze.

Did you mark the distributor's position when you took it out?

Did you time the engine after you put it back in?
