Importing a Skyline as a temporary racecar?

I was reading through the NHSTA guidelines for importing and legalizing vehicles, it had a section about how only a RI could bring in a Skyline and legalize it for use in the US. But what if I imported it as a temporary racecar? It says that any motor vehicle can be brought in on these pretenses and can stay for up to three years. The information I saw gave a list of people and groups I would need to send to letters to in order to bring the car in. So this leads me to beleive that I can bring in Skyline as a racecar and use it on any track that I please. Granted I would need to find a way to keep it after the three years are up but I think I can figure it out. So it's not a streetable Skyline but it's a start, right? Anyway let me know if their are any holes in my logic or if the rules have changed and I'm not getting up to date info.
