I have a 2000 jeep cherokee sport. I bought a CPS.It looks round with 2 screws maybe 1/4" heads on them through it with a rectangle recepticle, magnetic pickup through it and a 3 prong plug in for the wire. Is this the sensor I want. Can't find a pic of 1 anywhere !! By looking at all the previous posts it looks like mine is at the top of the bellhousing in an obscene spot with no room to work except from the back or maybe the side. Its right against the firewall. Looks like U have to take a bracket off the bellhousing to change this part. There is minimal room to work in there but i do own a 3/8 -36" extension just for things like this. Can anyone help me by telling me this is all correct or send me a pic , alink to 1. Or Just tell me what the hell to do and I'll do it. Just want to make sure the part is right and the location of what I'm going after is. Thanks in advance I have to go to work now. Gotta love them Jeeps !!!

I went on friggin google to get a look at what a 2000 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0 ltre Crank Position Sensor should look like and the part that my brother got from jeep looks nothing like it. Its also stated that its location is about 10 o-clock drivers side. When I wrote it down on paper for him to order . I could'nt have made it any easier. I just opened the box and said "this does'nt have a wiring harness on it. Could this part be a Camshaft position Sensor. Hows this ? --what is it??? Who the %#!* knows .All I know is what I got is not what I need. Thought 1 of U guys would have pointed that out after I posted some round thing that fits in a 3"X2" box has no harness coming from it and is made of some cheap ass plastic. Now I gotta hope Jeep Parts over here where I got It is open on new years eve at least til noon. THIS SUCKS. Ask for a link a pic and what ya get. I'm just pissed. This is my first experience with a Jeep and its not going well but now its war and I will WIN. I'm taking the old 1 out tomorrow anyway so I'll see just what the hell it is. Have a nice holiday guys. Sorry I missed your post earlier, but life goes on.

Sounds like you got the Camshaft Position Sensor (see link below).

Crankshaft Position Sensor IS a pain in the rear to change, at least on a 92 cherokee. Better have a few extensions and one or more that pivot slightly (and maybe a few bandages  ) .

Mine looks like the second picture on this page (http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?ForwardPage=/az/cds/en_us/0900823d/80/15/24/5f/0900823d8015245f.jsp), and was in the location shown (about 10 o'clock). But the picture does not show that mine had 2 bolts holding it on.

As for a parts store being open on New Years Eve - I would imagine so.

Take Care,

Since the CPS seems to be a dealer item ( and their parts dept is closed) or ordered from a parts store in3-5 days looks like I'll have to wait til Monday., but until then I'm gonna beat it and take apart the connection since that seems to be a problem area also. Happy New Year Jeepsters.

Thanks Greg, I'm over my hissy-fit now. My Dads boiler went down last night so that was todays project and yes I am the proud owner of a Camshaft Position Sensor. We deal with Jeep and other Dealers since we do Van and car conversions for the handicapped and disabled. They'll take it back and I'll get the right 1. I just have to wait for Monday now. I just gets me mad when my Einstein Brother can't order almost anything right the first time. I work there when he's busy. Lotsa welding and wiring. Have a great and safe New Years----Chris
