Look under the handle and see if the rods are still attached to the handle mechanism..... Those plastic retianers do fall out/off or break.

Search for a thread on this. I know I've answered several on this topic. One with step by step instructins to fix it.

fixing a tail gate sould be sticky. it seems to come up a lot. even if it is a simple fix there seem to be a lot that just dont know how to do it.

Good point. In fact, this just happened to mine the other day. Another one of those cheap pieces of plastic that is in a place that gets a lot of use/abuse.

If it's the little plastic piece that holds the rod to the tailgate latch assembly, they are $1.80 from the dealer (each). It's actually cheaper than my local autozone.

Help - I have a 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 HD Crew Cab. Tailgate is just jammed. Sounds like all the links and mechanisms are in tack - however, tailgate will not release. Any suggestions on how to manually release locking toggs. Thanks
