ignition stuck on, engine keeps trying to start

I had to change my heater core. All went ok. I had to drop the steering column, so i removed 4 screws from the column housing one looked a litttle different. One was a screw that went into the ignition. I might have put the wrong screw in the ignition, because when I started up the car, it kept trying to start. I had to disconnect the battery to get it to start. It seems like the key isn't kicking back to tell the car it's alreadt started and running. I'm desperate, does anyone have any advice? If the key isn't kicking back can you check the spring that is not letting the key back off from the start position? This screw you say that goes into the ignition could have caused the spring the lose tension when you pulled it out. Something is causing it to not back off. Have you tried to turn the key back to run manually?

I agree with Davescort97. Just turn it back manually to the ignition position.

You know what? I think I got it. I took the back off the ignition and one of the tumbler pins fell out. I must have ruined something with the odd screw. I can turn the key with the back off of the ignition, but once I put it back together, the key gets stuck again. I guess it was too much screwing around with the steering column drop. The plastic shroud on the back of the ignition (that keeps the tumbler pins in place) is really sloppy now, and maybe even cracked. I'll probably have to put in a new ignition. I'll keep you posted. Valuable lessons learned!
