1) Is it typical of alarm systems, that if you disconnect/reconnect the battery, the alarm sounds?
2) And now if you stick the key in the ignition, the alarm stops?

It is possible this might occur depending on condition of vehicle when you disconnected battery. Alarm likely stops when you insert and THEN rotate key in ignition because the vehicle anti-theft system verifies a "learned" key is being used.
Do you have your content theft system in passive mode? That is a setting controlled with D.I.C. Factory setting is Security:RKE
Having system in Passive mode would make it much more likely the alarm would be triggered because it automatically arms itself a minute after you turn ignition off and close the doors.

OK - then I can't explain the reason for the "honk, honk" but I know it can happen occassionally when doing battery disconnects.
Nothing to worry about though.
