Quick question.

After looking at several websites with consumer reviews and stuff, I realized alot of people complain about the 0-60 with a 96' escort. I've got the low-jack LX version with an automatic transmission. My question is, I owned it for about 2 months, and in those two months, I could never do a real burn out. I always wanted to like, make my tires squeel with that car, but I never could. Now last month something internal(I believe) ruined my transmission. Is it normal for the car to not have enough power to spin the tires? It would not spin on pavement, it would in rocks, and like parking garage cement.
I was just wondering if maybe it was a sign of internal problems that I neglected to realize. Also, the car shifted hard when it was cold.
Just wondering if when I swap, if I have any chances of being able to squeel my tires once or twice.. (come on im 17 and it's my first car)

its an auto, its hard to get a manual to spin, damn near impossible for an auto.

Aaah! But for the days of my youth. I tried to burn out a 72 buick with auto. It broke my crankshaft in two. This is very bad on a vehicle.

I used to care how fast my car ran. Now I care about how long it runs :2cents:

I have a 1993 Ford Escort LX 4-door hatchback w/ the 1.9L, automatic. On a few occasions I have chirped a tire on a turn on dry pavement. And of course, I have spun my tires on dirt, snow, gravel, and wet roads. However, a full burnout on dry pavement I have not tried. I would rather not risk the transmission on some rubber burning experiance. I can wait until I get a newer car. Any new car these days can spin its tires, because pretty much all of them have over 130hp.

Since you are into driving fast, have you topped it out? My speedo goes to about 85mph and I passed it to about where the 90mph line would be. I don't think I will ever know the speed past 85 unless I had a portable GPS. I normally go 75-80 on the highway. Topping it out was one of those one time things. I haven't been over 80 since.

Yes, an impressive 88hp. Does the hp decrease as it gets older or does it stay constant according to how well it is maintained?

I can if im at like a stop light ill put the car in low and just hit the gas it will for about like 2 secs then stop and dart off. The sad thing is ive beaten a honda civic lol all i did was put it in too low tell about 30-35 ish put it up too drive and it will take off faster =)

I would never do that to my car, just because I don't want to mess anything up, and accidently over rev and whatever else could happen.

Lol escorts are junk even if mine has 57k miles i might sell and buy a civic

for racing it is recomended to start in low then D then OD when racing, it tares up the tranny after a while though.

unless you get a 06+Si Civics are slow shitters, a 5spd ZX2 w/ good driver will run w/ a 99-00 or 02-05 Si, all you have to do is get them off the line. Civic's have no bottom end.

Yes, thats at the crank.
A 5 speed has about 75whp
A Auto has about 69whp...and that is why it's had to do a burn out.


But my 2.0 swaped turbo'd 93 has the opposite problem, I usally dont get traction untill about 3rd gear, on good day's even 3rd will struggle with traction. Thats with 205/55 15's.

On the other had I get the 1st gear spin and 2nd gear cherp. lol

LOL... I have a 74 Nova... 350 w/manual trannie and a couple mods... Burnouts that were longer than a city block (prior to the u-joints busting off)
Top speed... the speedo broke at 140 (was still accelerating) and the needle just went back to 0 mph... Needed another cable LOL
The only time I was ever beatten was by a 89 honda crx and he cheated, we agreed no spray and he sprayed 10 pounds... just barely beat me tho. :-D

went through 5 or so sets of u-joints, about 5 clutches, 3 transmissions, 2 cam shafts and many tires, and she was still running strong when I put her up before I left for the army. My brothers friend drove it to a storage area, and was scared of it when he got 2 blocks from the house.

Moral of the story, it is an absolute rush to have that much power at your feet... but not cheap if you like to put the power to the pavement. Yeah I could have been gentle with it and still not have to change any of that stuff... but I was 18 and had a lead foot.

hey my family owns a 95' ford escort wagon wit the 5spd manual. being 16 i have tryd doing burnouts and such. it seems that with the proper amount of clutch and gas i can spin the tires for as long as i want but it involves over rev-ing. in the rain ive spun the tires across a whole 8 lane road, but in your case im not sure what your car is capable of....

so YES the 1.9 has atleast enough power to spin the tires abit.
