Well I've put it off long enough so now I finally started taking out my Pacesetter long tubes that I put in this summer. I'm taking them out to recoat them because I didn't coat them right the first time... It only took a few hrs to have the car ripped down and to have the headers unbolted... but the god damn y pipe had a mind of its own and wouldn't let the headers go..... after a few more hours of work the headers were free... I sand blasted one header last night which is the shitiest work there is... if anyone works as a sandblaster your job must fuckin suck.... the header came out good after the blast so today I decided to test paint one header. I'm using POR-20. Its a high temp paint that is supposed to be pretty much indestructable... but we will see about that.... It didn't spray like I would have liked it to but it didn't come out too bad.... This stuff is like paste in the can so you have to thin it down 8-1... but it still didn't come out of the gun right.... its not a smooth finish its more bumpy... ..... so thats where i am right now... I'll post up more pictures along the way to show you guys whats involved in putting in long tubes... I know some of you want to see how its done....

Shit, Cuda might have a little business in his hands... Btw, when you 1st put the headers on, was taking the manifolds off a bitch? It was for me. They were so rusted, the shit was unbelieveable. Lots of bloodshed at that battle.

the biggest bitch about the manifolds is getting the plugs out around them and getting the bolts out since they are a bitch to get to... but no, mine weren't rusted to hell, the bolts actauly came out pretty easily once i got to them.... as for where they meet the exhaust pipe, well u can forget about those bolts... get out the sawzall............the first time I installed the headers there was bloodshed and hands that were black for a week.... this time not a scratch on me, its a hell of a lot easier once you've done it before

yeah i have some flowtech shorty headers but i want some coated ones before i get an lt1, this would save me some big money, already coated headers are expensive

Most interesting...I am considering these this spring, so I may be asking a lot of annoying little questions. I apologize in advance.
Are you working with a lift or jack stands/ramps etc? I know a lift would be most useful. And what all did you have to pull in order for them to fit up right? (I saw the pic and caption, but was that all?) Sorry again for the irritating questions.

Link85x

Agreed. Once it's been done, the 2nd time and on is so much easier.

cuda_dude

questions are welcome.... um i have the car up on jack stands but i would love a lift... just make sure you get big jack stands and get the car up as high as you can... as for parts that need to be taken off i think i pretty much listed them all in the caption above the one pic... alt, starter, oil filter, 02 sensors, plugs, wires, coolant temp sender, dip stick tube, intake system, steering thing, belt, possibly drivers side valve cover,.... thats all i can think of for now.... the steering clearance issue is the biggest bitch, ususaly you have to dent in the header a bit for it to clear so on your drivers side header put it in temperarily with 2 bolts... put in your steering nuckle thing and then mark where it hits... take the header back out and dent it in to clear.... do that and it will save you a lot of time and headaches..

well if the price is right I'll consider it (i really hate sandblasting lol) but they wont look exactly the same as the coated headers u would buy from the header companys those are more of a gloss chrome look... por-20 is more of a nice aluminum look
