HUB Bearings and Axles Question

Where exactly are hub bearings on a 2000 GTP?

Are they part of the axle and if you replace the axles they come with new hub bearings?
Are they a complete bearing in a race that goes into the spindle somehow seperately from the axle shafts?

I suspect that I may have the hub bearing on the driverside going bad on my 2000 GTP. When loading the left wheel under power there is a noticable shimmy.

The wheel hub, bearing and ABS sensor are all one unit. They are secured to the front axle shafts with a nut that is torqued to about 180 foot pounds. The assembly is secured to the car with 4 bolts and the axle shaft goes through the bearing itself. These must be purchased and installed seperately from the axle shafts themselves. They are fairly expensive due to the fact that the ABS sensor is part of the assembly. Based on your description I would have to believe that your problem is in the hub assembly.

Thank you, I have been trying to figure out the symptom and now have a direction to pursue. I appreciate the input.

Hello all. I was trying to remove my hub last night got it almost done but couldn't get one hub bolt loose. PIA to get at and also couldn't get shaft out. Tried to hammer, but just went in a little and came back out.
Its on a 97 GrandPrix, Front right hub.

Is there something special that I need for this. The bolt I couldn't get out was the bottom left one. do I need to turn the wheels to get at it better or is it because of the shaft being in the way?

You'll need to drop the lower ball joint out of the spindle so you can swing it out. This allows enough clearance to get the axle shaft out, gaining clearance to remove the last hub retaining bolt.
