Just wondering if anyone on here has a sirius radio installed in their blazer and where they might have put it. I havent really seen a mounting kit specifically for a 98 blazer but i have the car kit with the system i'm sure i can make fit somewhere - just wanted to maybe see some pics/ideas from other users.

I just put the sirius on thanksgiving day. I placed it in the exact spot where the XM tuner was. If you notice, on the passenger side, under the glove box, there is a plastic trim. unbolt it, and you will be able to fit it right in there, but standing up. If you don't know what i'm talking about, it's the place where the light is. you can unbolt it, place it in there standing up, and just slide the cover back up over. It might be a little snug, but all you have to do is push it up, and then rebolt the cover. the cover will hold it so it won't move, because it's already snug, and since there is a hole there for the light, there is no overheating because that serves as a vent. If you need pictures, I can take some when I get home. OH SHIT, by the way, this is for the tuner hideaway box that connects to a satellite radio ready head unit. If you are talking about the one that comes with the display, you can probably do the same thing, but mount the display where you want. OH, and if you are running the tuner hideaway box, to attach it to the headunit, you can run the cables through the glove box. If you open the glove box, you will see a cover for the relays. Pull that off, and you can fit the cables from behind there. It goes through the stereo, and right to the spot where the tuner sits. :naughty: I did this, and I have it installed perfectly in my 1997 blazer. Any other questions, PM me.

Sorry, I should have specified - its a plug n play unit xact xr7 model, like a starmate. I seen some of these mounts but im not to sure about them yet. I have a JVC radio that will allow me to eventually hook the output directly to the HU, however i need to buy a special part for that.
I just dont want the receiver mounted to close to the passenger side where some one can bump into it.
The other thing is i'm guess it's not good to run the antenna wire along the same path as my sub/amp wires due to interference?

What about the console? Do you have a cd player in the lower console by the cup holders? Maybe on top of that. I am not sure of your exact unit but there is a HUGE space under the trays in the center console if you have to mount any controlers. DO NOT run any wires along RCA connects or along FM modulators as this will cause interference. Good luck.

I just installed an xact xtr3ck a couple days ago.:
http://www.sirius.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Sirius/Page&c=ProductAsset&cid=1126670687120
I mounted it on the driver's side of the radio, above where my right knee is.
The antenna is centered in the rear, it is the recommended distance from the edge (I don't remember the exact distance). I ran the wire in through the hole for the third brake light wiring, and tucked it in down the edge of the headliner. I then ran it behind the trim on the front roof support, under the dash, and to the sirius unit.
Now I'm just waiting for Bubba the LoveSponge to come back on the air.

mounting the antenna outside then i guess. I know a friend of mine had his installed somewhere and they just put it on the dash up by the window. Probably where im going to put that - i dont want it outside for someone to rip off or something. As far as the head unit, im not exactly sure as to where im going ot put it. I wouldnt mine to put it somehow on the console below the heater controlls, or ever if i could make a mount to attach it where the ashtray is. I dont smoke and i could even use the power from there to power the radio im guessing. On top of that when the unit is not in the car i can just close the ashtray and hide the mount from plain view.

Before I swapped out my PNP III w/ an SIR-PNR1 (basically a sportster) I used a gooseneck and mounted it on my center console.. (Don't have that head unit anymore either. Both the head unit and the PNP III were installed in the wrangler)

It's a Kenwood Here 2 Anywhere; I hardwired the power to a switched source so it comes on and off with the car.

I work at a retail store, in my department well sell and install satelitte radio. We for the most part suction cup them to them windsheild near the rearveiw or at the bottom of ither "a" piller, I had a starmate that i had stuck in under the my Pioneer and on top of the dash trim lip in my 97. It just wedged in there mouting flush with my radio blocking the bottom pocket, and running the wires though the pocket. I left my dig. camera at school, put it looks good and not out of place or overwelming

Booch - I like the way you have yours mounted. It gives it a clean and professional look. Also, hardwiring it to a switched source is a good idea since you will probably be listening to it rather than the regular radio.
Nice job...

Thanks billibong....
I also put in lighted mirror / dual sunvisors, an overhead console with compass, auto-dimming rear view mirror, and power to my radar detector, Sirius radio, and the FM modulator. All of this was pulling off the delayed power wire from the back of the stock radio (a little much!).
After starting to blow fuses on a regular basis, the radio delay power now triggers a relay. This relay pulls power off a constant 12v I have from the battery (going to my Kenwood amp), and everything works great now!

Hey Girlbear, I mounted my antenna in the same area as you, but I ran the wire through the third brake light instead.
If you take off the light, feed the wire into the hole, and it'll pop out just under the panel with the rear domelight.
You don't get any exposed antenna wire, and the gasket seals the wire around the light when you reinstall it.
Just a thought...

Gotta make a move soon. I can't miss Howard's 1st Show.
I've had Sirius for about a year. Been listening to Howard 100 for about 3 months now... The HighPitch Craptacular was probably one of the most disturbing things I've ever heard......(shudder) Though when they did Elegant Elliot being evicted live, I was cheering for the marshall that was evicting him!

I've listened to howard, off and on, for over ten years, I've never really liked him much, but the wack pack are pretty entertaining. You guys should check out Bubba the LoveSponge, he's going to be doing the afternoon drive on Howard's station. I got Sirius so that I could listen to his show. Bubba's not all that great, but his cast and comedy bits are the best in the business.

I have the PNR-1 with my DEH-860MP Pioneer Headunit. I also ran the antanna through the third brake light cable opening. It's pretty easy. I just cut the rubber plug holding it, and ran the cable through it, and then grabbed some epoxy, sealed the rubber plug back up, and then pushed it back into it's spot. Piece of cake! I ran it all along the trim on the passenger side, and under the dash on the passenger side, nobody notices the antanna, and nobody knows I have sirus, (UNLESS I AM DRIVING WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN, I HAVE 2 W6 SUBS!) then everyone knows what I'm listening too! LOL. :loser:

Sweet. THats exactly how i was thinking of doing it. I already took the ashtray out and everything, im just trying to think of a way to mount it to the inside of the ashtray - this way when its not in use i can just close the door and no one will see the mount.
What did you use to mount yours to the ashtray? Any part suggestions would be great. I was going to try and use a part of the sucktioncup mount but i still need a way to fasten that to the inner metal of the ashtray.

On the Kenwood, here is the original mount (cradle and base assembly).
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/boochster/Step1.jpg
I unscrewed the cradle from the base, and then removed the mounting stud from the base so the bottom was smooth.
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/boochster/Step3.jpg
I then fab'd a bracket to go under this cradle, cutting around the existing vents to help keep the unit cool. There are 4 holes in the cradle that I put studs through and tightened this new fab'd bracket to the cradle.
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/boochster/Step2.jpg
Next, I removed the bracket from the cradle screwed it into the braces on either side of where the ashtray was mounted. Once the bracket's in place, re-tighten the cradle to the bracket, complete the wiring on the back side, and you're done.
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/boochster/Step4.jpg
Note that there was a bracket that's part of the dash, behind the ashtray. I removed this to make room for the Sirius unit.
Here's a closeup of the completed install
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c98/boochster/Step5.jpg
The only thing I'd have done different is to paint the brackets black, and to angle the unit up a little higher, so it would be a little easier to read.
Hope this helps!
