I have a 2004 ls with the regular stereo system. I am wondering if i can exchange this system for a bose unit. As i understand from some posts here all the dealer needs to do is program the unit for the truck. Is this true?

Thanks

It can be done, but not easily! It requires a new radio in the dash and an amplifier needs to be put somewhere in the truck (in the stock bose system, it's under the passenger rear quarter panel). Then, all your speakers would need to be replaced and you'd have to add in dash speakers and run wires to all them. It would cost a lot of money for the parts and it would take tons of time. Go an aftermarket way. What I did was to add mid-tweeters in dash (not too hard) by connecting them with a crossover to the in the front door speakers. Then, I removed the rear speakers and put some Sony bookshelf speakers in the trunk - they are held in by velcro and they also take up some space, but I don't care. They sound tremendous, with bass beyond belief for a factory radio. I think the bass is even deeper and louder than the bose unit.

Im with phewop118 here, going from regular to Bose will be too costly and not worth it in the end. There are just too many things that are completely different and will not be cheap to replace. I think I heard the Bose amp (just the amp) goes for about 1K/$1000. Then, the speakers are also costly and it will cost you way more than its worth.

Go aftermarket and get all the goodies!
