well i went out and picked up 2 cadence 12" 4 ohm subs in a bassworks sealed box for cheap (less then half price easily :grinyes: ) and am wondering whats a good amp to run with this and the proper guage wire to run up to the battery and such.
also im using a connector to switch from my aftermarket GM connector to an aftermarket connector (kenwood) and theres 2 wires on the GM side of the harness im making (dimmer and illumination, both orange.) im thinking they just attach to eachother for some reason.
PS: I LOVE BOXING DAY SALES!!!!!

its a metra harness and it has a dimmer and illumination wires *my aftermarket radio doesnt* hwo my stock radio is wired up theres 2 different connectors and im thinking that the radio made the connetion between the 2 internally, and im now going to make the connection externally.
is that sounding right?

ok well i made the connections between the 2 connectors and taped them up temporarly to test it, and i connected the gm harness to the connectors then the connectors to my kenwood deck, and i turned my car on and nothing on the cd player, no display, and i checked the troubleshoot section of the manual and it said i should check my fuses and they're fine. so i took out the kenwood and the connectors and put in the stock radio to see if it was my stock wiring. but it worked perfectly. so its down to either my kenwood is broken or m wiring is bad. (its only twisted together and electrical tape over it from now)
but i checked to see if connecting the illumination and dimmer wires together did anything but still nothing.
so does the illumination wire connect to the 12V acc/ign wire? (red)

First of all most aftermarket head units have a wire on the wiring harness for illumination which gives the unit the ability to display the information on the face plate and most do not have the dimmer function built in. Disconnect the dimmer and illumination wires as the illumination wire runs into the ign/acc circuit to give the power for the unit to light up and the dimmer runs into the headlight dimmer switch so that with factory units when you turn down the brightness of the dash lights it also goes down too. When you hook up an aftermarket unit just clip back the dimmer wire a little to get rid of the exposed copper wire and then tape it off to prevent any shorting out and the wiring harness (in your case Metra) will have the wire for illumination usually being orange or sometimes blue. As for the subs get a good quality amp that pushes about 600-750 rms at 2 ohms and wire the subs in parallel to cut them down to 2 ohms load on the amp which will get more power out of the amp. As far as brands there's a thread at the start of this forum that lists the different name brands and they're rating among us audiophiles so choose from that list and shop for best price but make sure where you get the amp from is an authorized dealer for that supplier otherwise manufacturer's warranty will not apply.

ok well, its been a while but ive been looking at amps.
im stuck between these 5 amps (somehow they are a good $200 cheaper even with having to ship them from the states then al of the subs here in BC :banghead: )
RMS power
Boss Chaos CH1200M: 600W x 1 @ 2 ohms
Boss Chaos CH1500D: 800W x 1 @ 2 ohms
Boss Riot GT1500D: 800W x 1 @ 2 ohms
Audiobahn A12005DN: 600W x 1 @ 2 ohms
KENWOOD KAC-9102D: 850W x 1 @ 2 ohms
im hoping to get a local stereo store to order one in or maybe even have one of these in stock. cause most of the ones ive looked at are in the $700 dollar range. (CND)

Don't get boss or audiobahn. If you desire for cheaper power, look into Profile amps. Also, hop on a couple forums and hit up the classifieds.
