If I bought the Suzuki SV650 like alot of people recommended for a first bike, would it be smarter to buy it new, and then mod it? OR buy it used and then get rid of it when I was tired of it.

I always recommend used bikes, since they will usually end up on the ground at some point. I always have and always will buy used bikes, simply because japanese bikes have no resale value, and great deals can be had cheap. That, and I would never be able to comfortably push a new bike hard on the track for fear of crashing and wadding it up before I even finished paying it off.
I doubt you'll grow tired of an SV. They're great all around bikes.

yeah always buy used bikes. the best thing to do is buy a used sv650s and ride for a few months and if you get power hungry just buy a used 600cc inline 4. that would cost at least 1 or 2 grand less than modding a brand new sv.

I still will offer my VERY tame I4 Yamaha Seca II 600cc bike to you for a very modest price of $2000. Never been dropped at speed. Previous owner dropped it in his driveway (once on each side, so it matches). I have the original stock pipes and the vance and hines aftermarket full pipes as well as the rest of the jet kit I used when rebuilding the carbs last winter. It's actually a nice starter bike that will stay with you for a few years, just like the SV650.

I will work on getting pics. I have them stored on another computer, so it might be a lil while. I'm in Pittsburgh, PA but I would be willing to transport it by truck if you're within about a 5 hour drive for me. Otherwise, shipping is an option that isn't too expensive. You can PM me if you want more details or anything. I can tell you just about ANYTHING you want to know.
